It should also be noted that Sutton Derby didn't fill out the book on day two of their most recent game.

Ok I couldn't help but chuckle at that line that said they were in the 7 best clubs in all of Australia.

An elite read... you'd think the clubs who are better must be from ASCA Grade 1.. poor Plympton must be feeling pretty crappy about themselves.

I'm so happy for the entry of Sutton Derby, for a different view of it, it has brought the attention of people like me from a northern ATCA club to pay attention week in week out to Section A, A grade cricket

Only got 16 senior players apparently, so why enter 2 teams.
We play them in round 6, and they'll probably rock up with 3 ring ins and beat us.

Never in my 35 years of ASCA have I seen such an aggressive game of cricket, that was played on one of the ovals at Victoria Park. The game was Grand Masters v Western Youth in Section 9
It was getting fairly close to being physical.

Lots of internal frustration from the lack of games due to S9 forfeits.....

I see SD had 7 players named on the weekend and are 5/42 chasing 225.

Having played section 10, and now 9 this season, I think I have a good perspective of how things work.

Our team is 4 x 50+ blokes, and 7 x teenagers who will possibly never play much higher, but are terrific lad's, and have a crack.
Obviously, being our 5th side, we usually play other clubs B, C, D grade teams, not many 5th teams.

Some clubs go hard, and win at all costs, some not as hard.

Over the past 3 season's, there's really only been 1-2 sides that have been complete and utter tossers, but that's life.

This season, we have played Porties, Cove, North Haven, and half way through Happy Valley.
Each of these sides have been terrific in the "spirit of the game"
Each captain has been excellent.
Plumb LBW's have been given, snicks behind given, no personal sledging, and it's been mostly enjoyable, except for my body suffering tremendously each Sunday.

Chatting with opposition after games, and around the traps, there is a common theme, WYC have duped the association, Sutton Derby are a joke, and even a little dissent towards ICC who won a premiership in Section 3, but went down.

As stated earlier, all clubs lose players. Our A grade lost Tansell, Taylor, Crawford and Nurney. We lost players in lower grades as well.
Our D grade lost the gf in section 8, but got promoted, and are now getting absolutely belted.

Some clubs get on with it, some clubs sook.

It's about time that the association grew some balls.

They can start by booting Flagstaff Hill B grade out. 4 forfeits in 4 games. I don't care if there's a by, my body would love it.

You make some good points Moe.
I feel a bit sorry for the ASCA Committee.
They try their best to cater for clubs requests and often are too soft.
Sutton Derby sold a good story about playing Section 1, other clubs sold a story as to why they shouldn't be playing Section 1.
There was a gap which SD wanted to fill so it was the easy option.
I hope in the future the ASCA are a bit firmer on clubs and suggest they suck it up.
Some of the gradings you mentioned above Moe indeed are confusing. Just because a club loses a few players doesn't mean doom and gloom.
Premiers one season and dropping down the next.. Easy option.
3 seasons ago Porties were at their lowest in their 90 year history... struggling to fill 2 sides and of those players only 6-7 should've been playing A Grade. It was tough but we dug ourselves out quickly and not once asked for our top side to go down... we just took whatever our season deserved.
Other clubs should be working harder to improve their playing list rather than taking the easier option of dropping down IMO.

Build it and they will come, who wouldn’t want to be a part of what could be the greatest club in the southern hemisphere?

Can they tweak the draws so that there's a crossover, with Sutton-Derby playing Flagstaff Hill Bs every week? Sounds like it would solve a few issues
