Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV) 2010-11
Pipers are looking ok even though they again have fielded three sides. In fact one if the reasons that we havent been pushing to A grade is the reason we are all talking about. Strengthen the club and create some depth then push the club up as a whole.
cuatthecrease - firstly, it's good for the game that you have 3 grades from such a small town. However, how many years will we hear the above argument before you put a team up in A grade? To be honest, I would have thought after 3 straight (?) b grade flags, there'd be no better time than this year. What's the real reason?

Well from what I know Alan Cooper would have stayed if we had an A grade, The Principal was pushing for A grade, Mr and Mrs Cricket were pushing for A grade, Brock Gifford wanted an A grade, Fielks wanted an A grade. The former club sec and pres were pushing for A grade. Problem is a number of blokes want to play 1 day cricket.
Actually looking at this Why didn't we go up.
Oh thats right. No training facilities, no coach, no committed players week in week out. (must be a Gen Y thing)
Look at this way the HCA should have pushed us up like they did to Meadows.
Small town. Most of the blokes come up from the flat of Adelaide to play that is the only way we have survived. Also pinching a few of Red Cap blokes helped.
I can believe the the Gators had KG bowling in the C's for the first game. Gees they must have been struggling.

As for the talk about the season being to long and pre season footy training having an effect on numbers...
Footy was only invented by Tom Wills as a way to keep his fellow cricketers fit during the winter and therefore it should be treated as the poor cousin it is to the wonderful game of cricket!

Unfortunately Wills theory works the opposite Kersbrook way, and with more Brookers/Cavaliers with partners/kids and with a choice between the 2 sports, cricket was always going to lose out.

What now - Partners and Kids stop you from playing cricket??? Now i've heard it all.
What a cop out from a club that contested how many A grade Grand Finals in the last few years...?
To not even have a side in any level (senior or junior) is a disgrace and a slap in the face to the rest of a competition that is already in a state of rapid decline.
How about struggling through with an A2 (4 two day games/10 one dayers) or B grade (all one day games) side for a couple of seasons...
Why can't Kersbrook have their First XI play in the lower grades - surely the TVCA Executives wouldn't protest - Palmer/Birdwood/Eden Valley/Cambrai/Lenswood all do it already!
I know your probably going to come back with the no player argument - work saturdays/boating/fishing/girlfriends(boyfriends maybe) or whatever but you MUST realise that EVERY club is struggling to field sides but they continue to try and try again - they don't just give up when it gets a bit hard.
Maybe Lobethals "experiment" of promoting the A2's might show a few of the previously mentioned A2 First XI's that an A grade victory is not a elusive as they think.
End of rant...

I understand your point on facilities but not the coach aspect. We have a current player coaching, as always have as far as I've been involved at the gate. You've got some experienced cricket heads there that could lead.
And I think a lot of clubs are in the situation of non-committed players, pre-Christmas is hard to have a few competitive grades. We should probably only have 3...

Surely the German express Henschke will be knocking on the selectors door after taking 2/13 & 6/20.
