to this day it still amazes me that people whinge and whine about playing div 1 or b grade and say they have no competion??
well get of ya a$$e$ and have a go at assoc games, the quality you will play against will make you value your wicket more and make you bowl a better line...
so for whingers put up or shut up  those that think there not good enough have a friggin go , you never know what might happen . what ever grade you play at least have a go , and herder mate if the other guys that you have asked cant give an answer or they cant be bothered then bugger them mate, take the ones that give you 100% might not be as strong but at least they have heart. which is alot more than some   my opinion only.

Well said mate. ;) And I most certainly will be applying that priciple of selecting those who show their enthusiasm and passion for wanting to compete at that level when it comes to the crunch. I definitely won't be chasing blokes and trying to coax them out. They know where training is and what the schedule is. It's on the website and hopefully the delegates have been doing the right thing by the Association, their Club & players by taking the message back.. Sorry, I just choked on a bit of vomit.. ;) Unfortunately Smasha, there's people like you and me who want to pit themselves against quality opposition, but as a metro 'social' competition, the vast majority of players in this league are happy to either cruise along without some level of pride in their cricket or be a big fish in a small pond and not challenge themselves to be better players. I just don't understand that mentality at all, but it's a reality.

At the end of the day I'll pick the best 13 I can from those who show their interest and as ya said, the knockers can STF U or put their hand up. Simple. ;)

agreed... and i was looking forward to being able to watch him smash the ball around and not having to go fetch it for once

Having being involved in 5 carnivals already ( i think i must be one of those old bastards you mentioned OBB ) i guess i just want to encourage as many guys as possible to put their hand up for the week. When i finish playing i know i'll look back and my fondest memories will be of those carnivals and the times we had on, but mainly off the field. The chance to play cricket along side of guys you would normally be playing against gives you a chance to really appreciate their skills, and also makes you realise that they are really good blokes too. I have been fortunate to play alonside guys like crackers and Hilly, Eddy V and Dutchy and of course Gully. All quality people. One thing i'll never forget is the clean jump Matty johnson made leaping from a shopping trolley New years eve, while doing atleast 60km/h hurdling down a very long and steep driveway after a long night on the gas. Still dont know how he landed it. And who can forget the " Deck chair " scandal. Moments in time that have nothing to do with cricket but will never be forgotten. Get involved guys, its a fantastic week.

Agreed, i've only been involved with two carnivals but they were a great experience and as you said you come to appreciate blokes more - not only for their cricket ability but as a person. And they are weeks you never forget, and would never want to forget! :D (but strangely dont remember when the mrs asks ;) )
