I'm led to believe that after at least 3 decades of tending the square in the middle of the Strath oval, former champion express bowler from the 70s, Perry Jones has handed over the job to local lad Luke Cousins. Being a bowler, Perry was known for producing bowler friendly pitches, the most notorious probably being last years semi-final where the highest team score in 4 completed innings was about 70 odd.
I think batsmen may start breathing a little easier from now on.
Having said that, the committed effort put in by Perry over all those years certainly deserve accolades of the highest order, for it is the efforts of volunteers such as him that every club crave for. =D> =D>

Volunteers like Perry are gold, a champion bloke as well.

A&EHCA lost both their matches.

That is a disgraceful result for A&EHCA with the talent available in that comp. Did the selectors mess up the selection? Perhaps there was too many old blokes in the team? Either way they blown their best opportunity in a long time to win it.

Dont know much about the make up of the team or much about the players from Woodside or Lobethal but from what i've seen over the years is that there really is a lack of quality batting talent in the A&EHCA. Dont be fooled by some of the guys over the last few years thast have made a few scores, they're mostly slappers and sloggers against average bowlers but get found out against quality bowling at Association level. So really, their consistent failure in the Meyer sheild comes as NO surprise.

Yeah well said jackpot perry jones is one of the best volunteers you could every ask for. Luke cousins is the new curator and already has the pitch looking a bit more lighter in colour taking planty of grass off the pitch. Have never seen so many blokes checking out the pitch as there were last week particulalry the batters, liking what they were seeing. In saying that woodside in the a2's were the first team to bat on it last week, and at one stage were 5/3. Poor batting i'm guessing not the pitch's doing. But yeah definately looks a bit more even for batters and bowlers, will see how many runs are made on it now. Lets hope your creek boys struggle v strath in both grades jackpot, loss's could mean no finals for the creek.

Totally correct kickittome. Creeks will need to win both their last 2 games in 'A' & 'A2s' to qualify for finals i would expect. Wont matter if the Strath pitch is a road this match, the Creeks 'A' grade batting has been ABYSMAL this season and have been winning matches on the strength of their bowling which is undermanned atm due to injuries and unavailibilities.
The 'A2s' have found a bit of form with the bat of late and the Creek pitch shouldn't present any gremlins for anyone this match.

Well, isn't it nice when you get it spot on. :D

Strath bowled out for 64

L.Creek in reply an Abysmal 8/92 but still enough to take the points. An outright for the Creeks would have a massive bearing on finals spots.

Doesn't seem a change of curator has made any difference. ;)

I always found batting on the strath turf no problems, maybe the batting in the comp isnt strong these days.

A bit harsh on the curator jack pot, from all reports i heard the pitch was a lot better than normal so well done to the new bloke. The report on the creek bowlers is they just had one of those days, they must be hoping they can do it every weekend here on. As for the batting, well they are struggling with it but abysmal i would not say that seeing as they are winning. You only have to pass the score set, but also heard Strath bowled very well too.

Fair effort from Eckermann, with Mt Lofty making just 99 in basically a full day's play.

Wasn't having a go at the curator, i'm sure Cuzzy will do a splendid job of it in the future.
The quality of the pitch doen't always reflect the scores.
A perfect example of that was today at the country carnival where we played on a pitch that was ordinary to say the least. I faced 2 balls that dead set rolled along the ground as well as balls that spat up off the same length yet looking at the scores, 201 to 198 wouldn't have suggested it was a bad pitch. Interesting to note that on the oval next to us, former Test spinner Peter 'Sounder' Sleep was having a day out, taking 5/9 & 7/49 as well as making 71 with the bat.

Have enjoyed Pistola’s reviews throughout the season Dogwatcher. More reliable and detailed than the Courier.

For anybody who cares..TVCA final round coming up. Top 4 could change shape depending on results:

Paracombe (146) Flag favourite after crushing Mt Torrens on the weekend.
Mt Torrens/Charleston (136) Chance to bounce back this week against EV.
Palmer (115) Form has dropped away a bit. Rathjen unable to bowl hurts.
Gumeracha (106) Weekend win at Palmer just about wraps up 4th spot. In form and could finish 3rd.
**
Lenswood (86) Would need minor miracle to sneak into 4th, but have finished season well.
Eden Valley (73) Just one win from Round 3 onwards. No Ugg and their attack struggles.
Cambrai (64) Broke their drought with big score against EV.
Birdwood (48) Signs of a long, hard season starting to show on young Roosters.

Final Round:

Eden Valley (6) v Mt Torrens (2)
Lenswood (5) v Cambrai (7)
Gumeracha (4) v Birdwood (8)
Paracombe (1) v Palmer (3)

Interesting to see Stirling and Happy Valley near the top in the B grade comp, albeit only a 6 team comp. Is it enough improvement for either club to consider the step back up to A Grade next season?

How has the standard been this year Saintal? Reasonable performances in the Meyer Shield given Woodside and Lobey going? Paracombe getting back Smith, McArdle and Hills(?) would have given been interesting to see hwo they went against Woodside and Lobey. Mount Torrens as good as last year? Palmer improved obviously with Rathjen back. From an outsiders POV, Birdwood and maybe Eden Valley not quite up to what you'd expect from an A grade, the rest are, but Cambrai have been disappointing?
