Plan to give Geoff Hardy an old style "Roast" on the same night.

Our 90th will be next year as well.

I think something like that could possibly do more harm than good in terms of participation as it may lead to current active players no longer making themselves available for regular season 2 day games.

I think that is ultimately up to the clubs to regulate how that works, i think most clubs have shown they do the right thing there, although i do agree there will be a minority that will want to go and be the big fish in the small pond. I think it will enable people who would otherwise retire or are unable to play to continue to play the game. I think there would be clubs that it would enable to increase the amount of teams they have.

Coro Ramblers have just completed their 85th season and are expecting to be involved in Coro's 150th celebrations with a match scheduled at Hewitt timed to their celebrations. Interestingly Coro played at Hawthorndene Oval until 1892 and earlier at a site next to Weymouth, so they were originally from the Valley anyway. Plenty of history of the clubs on the Ramblers website.

I think we would mainly use over 35's but we would also use u/18's to top up the side. So i wouldn't want to see it restricted to over 35's.

Funnily enough, I was in favour of the proposal last year. I thought (and continue to think) the idea has merit and promoted it to our committee (Ramblers). Ultimately, the numbers were in favour of keeping it as it has been and I voted with the club at last year's Association AGM.

My contention was (is?) that we are essentially preaching to the choir on forums like this & at committee meetings - we all play each week of the season because we love the game and don't necessarily see it from the other side. My theory was, what about for all those guys that each club loses over the years due to waning interest or too many other commitments? We've lost a bunch of players (including A-graders) because they have kids; work every 2nd Saturday; partners don't like them gone every Saturday and a bunch of other reasons. Combine that with a tendency to make games shorter/faster (20/20 and even NBL games dropping back to 10min quarters), it may not appeal to the younger generation like it has in the past.

This concept gives us that ability to have more people around the club and strengthen the club throughout, which is why I liked the concept.

Would the separate one-day comp on every 2nd week satisfy your concerns?

It's certainly a good start... If we can attract some of our guys who have left to come back into this comp and hopefully win them over to play every week, then how can you lose?

It's probably a good stepping stone as well, test the waters and see what the association at large think without affecting what's worked for years.

I don't understand why people think those who have left for those reasons you mentioned RB would come back to play under keswicks proposal. You don't play less cricket it makes you play more.

I see your point, and you're right - I more thought it might entice people who only ever intend to play say half the season out to play more games since they only have to commit to 1-week for a game.

The 1-day comp makes a lot of sense, definitely.

I don't mind the one-day comp idea, but I also do take the tough stance that if blokes can't commit due to work/family/can't be stuffed then I'd rather play with the guys who can commit. Why change rules to suit blokes who arn't as committed as the rest of us? I figure that when work/family have to take priority I'll stop playing, nothing wrong with that.

A somewhat egocentric point of view AF. I think you are forgetting what this comp is all about, 'To encourage the game of cricket'. Times are changing AF. If you need that sort of commitment you should be playing a more serious level of cricket with like minded people.

Although I do like the concept of a seperate one-day comp, I fear this will be the beginning of the end for 2 day cricket. The clubs will have their hands tied if enough players wish to play 1 dayers as their preferred format.

Maybe the comment doesn't read well, but I'd like to think the hard work we've put in to fill our teams and initiate junior teams will mean we have comitted players rather than a heap of blokes who play when it suits them. Yes a one-day comp will bring some of the older guys back into the fray and it will be great to have them around, but I hope it would be in the lower sections for only blokes who can't commit so we avoid the big fish in a little pond issue.

And I'm not sure sect 1 cricket is all about enjoyment all the time, there's a fair few sheep stations we've won and lost over the years ;)

Would a trial for one year work?
Then the clubs could make up the minds after that.
Probably a bit messy.
