i heard a rumour tanunda have signed Ben Parish which is a big pick up for the blockies, with the relegation system in place is the comp in danger of heading the same way the PDCA did with teams dropping down and losing their better players to other Div 1 teams making Div 1 sides too strong and making the gap in standard larger.

Loyalty is probably a good word to use here. I think you will find that there will not be alot of players throughout the competition chopping and changing clubs to play in the A1 comp due to loyalty to there home club. Parish (even though I have heard he is either staying at Pt Adelaide or will be down Robe way this year) is a little different in the case that he only played at Freeling for a couple of years and doesn't really have any ties there especially now that he doesn't kick the footy around there anymore either. In the main there is a lot of loyalty within the players of each club and pretty confident they will stay at their home clubs (even though there will be a lot of enticing during the off season from other clubs). Saying that, obviously there is always going to be a black sheep amongst it all as well. My view anyway is that these guys should be taking the responsibilty to get the club back into the A1 comp as they were part of the team that was relegated

Ben Parish is a star, have seen him hit many of bombs and take quite a few wickets on his day!

The league seems to be headed in a good direction and we shouldn't turn this into another Kevin Rudd situation,
if it aint broke don't fix it.

You are a goose Shoot it.... obviously an outsider looking in or i would hope you are, there is nothing wrong with this association at all and EVERYONE involved is doing a great job... As to come on here and have a personal dig sitting behind your computer is a cheap gutless shot, you know nothing about the President of the association.. so keep your opinions to yourself.. or as Norm said actually come out from behind your alias and speak up, but im guessing you are too much of a wimp to do that...

These forums are to express views on the comp. not to have personal attacks on people... think about that "shoot it" and if you cant do it then "shoot the F@#$ off"

No worries there scud (I forgot you were the high and mighty)

As an outsider looking in (however I do know a little about the league) - I have heard a few rumblings over the past two seasons with the running of the league.

I heard that a team was celebrating their 75th year (or some other milestone) in your league (and wanted to stay in the A grade) but were forced to play in a reserves comp. Then I heard one of your powerhouse clubs with numerous State country reps and having played numerous grand finals of late are now going down as well.

It also seems like you are trying to bring in a new team in every other year rather than keeping your own teams happy.

Maybe tidy up the backyard first before putting the house on the market.

Hmmm interesting comment, firstly to the "new team coming in" comment, the introduction of Sandy Creek last year improved the competition. The side finished top along with winning the one day final, and just losing out in the two day final. The club has improved the professionalism of the league IMO (and backed by some pretty promonient people in the association) and we are now the team that everyone wants to beat. Therefore other sides in the competition need to improve on their positions last year and all in all should make for a much stronger and tougher competition to play cricket in. Make no mistake though Sandy Creek are striving to raise the bar again as it would be pointless to have such a successful year last year and back it up with a poor effort this year.

As for Kapunda, it is a great shame to see them go down this year, they are a very good side and have great facilities but unfortunately for them they were on the receiving end of some pretty tight losses. Make no mistake though they will be chomping at the bit to get back to A 1 next year and i certainly feel sorry for all the other A1 Res sides as i think Kapunda will be looking to take their frustrations out each and every week

Not completely true there ....

The side celebrating its 75th anniversary went to the association AGM and voted in favour of a 10 team A1 comp knowing full well the implications (or more correctly, refraining from voting), the fact that they ended up 7th the season before left them in that position so they had to take their medicine.
The A1 and A1-Reserves competition structure is by far the best outcome for the association moving forward with the knock on effect being that all the lower grades suddenly have become more even. The fact the association didn't bend over as soon as a big-name club had a bad year is actually a credit to them. Mark my words, with the way some clubs have attacked junior development and the like over the years, Kapunda wont be the only big-name club to visit the reserves comp in years to come.... I think its a healthy thing.

Sure at times a side like Kapunda will end up in an unexpected position and go down, but ultimately that's a small price to pay... and realistically, for a side with the on paper talent that they have to have even been in a position to be in danger of going down is more of an indictment on them than on any competition structure.

Norm, is there any truth to the rumour that Lee from your side last year is changing clubs,
handy with the bat and ball, would be a significant loss.
