Why spend that much on a bat if you are going to retire again in the 12 months time?

Looks good when it's framed and hanging from a wall, signed by 10 premiership winning mates?

Maybe...

I was talking to the bloke as I have been out the game for 3 years and asked what was a good mid priced bat. He showed me a few, around the $300-400 mark, problem is you need to knock them all in. I wanted a ready play.
He had a box of puma iridium 3000 (i think thats what they were?) only $180 on special, ready play. They felt good, handled well and had a play with a mallet and had a decent middle.
The funny comment the guy said was he said this bat would be as good as the bat I was using 3-4yrs ago (a kookaburra diablo, that smashed them) and the difference between the top and middle priced bats wasnt much at all. So i went with the Puma.
Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Otherwise Im looking at getting a Fisher from Melb, or even playing around and buying a blank for $180 from Fisher and sculpting my own bat, mainly for a challenge and see how I go with it. Think it would be good fun!

I dabbled in moulding my own bats. I carved an awesome ridgeback design with just a hammer and chisel and it looked really good.

Called it the Spank-u-lator.

I also labelled my own bat with some contact and sticky tape. Cut out a photo of legendary EP cricketer Damon Ramsey from the local paper, put it on the bat and called the bat the "Run Machine".

Classic.

OS, you really do post some crap on these forums, the above would almost take the cake, except for your pathetic Walkerville football rubbish that you have been going on about forever it seems.

Seen it done via Ebay, people get really good bits of wood real cheap. Probably the way to go if you've got the know-how.

I got one of these the other year, for no reason other than I could, and wanted to see what they were like.
I've gotta say that the pickup and ping in these things, when compared to a run of the mill bat is astounding. (And I'm nothing special with a bat) .....

Basically, the amount of force you need to strike the ball with is minimal for the same result

If i had some spair cash sitting around and was playing like I used to, I would probs buy one aswell.
I cant see it making that much of a difference though? maybe hits a 4 when a cheaper bat will make you run a 3??!

Going to use a GM Catalyst LE, bought it basically brand new off the net. Ball comes off very nicely. Got it for a steal too.

When buying bats of the internet, make sure you get a picture of the actual bat you are buying, many who sell fakes just bit a generic photo of the bat. You can potentially get two very different things. Obviously things to look for are distinct straight grains and no knicks or bumps that might affect the performance of the bat. Postage can be a real killer when buying from England, make sure you get a very good deal.

Don't be afraid to buy a used bat, if it looks good and it is a good price, it might be a better option than buying brand new. Most bats take a few seasons to get to peak performance. You might get a bat where the ball comes flying off.

Also when buying a bat make sure you buy from Cricket Centre / Cricket Warehouse or direct from the manufacturer. Don't buy from your Rebel Sport / A-mart as these bats are the worst quality. Cricket Centre / Warehouse get the first choice of bats every summer!
