On another note, HCA are expecting to start October 8th, day before SANFL Grand Final
Grand Final on 31st March-1st April

Long season....

TVCA starts October 8th also. But we finished much earlier, usually mid March.

Will be an 8 team A grade as expected. Currently 6 clubs have nominated B grade teams (total of 7 teams with Mt Torrens fielding 2 B grades), while Lenswood and possibly Birdwood are attempting to find enough players for a second team.

In a sad sign of the times, it's been decided that there will be NO TVCA junior competitions. So the handful of clubs that have a junior team or two are exploring options for joining other comps (i.e Birdwood and Lenswood with AEH, Palmer with Murray Towns, Paracombe to head to the suburbs).

Another TVCA meeting in couple of weeks to finalise senior team nominations.

This is unbelivable the TVCA can't get any junior comps. What are the age groups of those who will have teams? Will they be involved in the underage association games?

Hugely dissapointing there will be no TVCA junior comp this year. Clubs need to be working so much harder to get kids in their local area playing cricket. At Paracombe we are doing our best with SACA clinics at our 2 local schools and the introduction of a Milo in2cricket program at the club. At this stage we only have around 10 interested kids but are hoping that will increase as the season nears. We are trying to get an u13 team in a surburban comp up and running but games are played 8.30 on Sunday mornings which is a tough timeslot and distances could also be an issue but fingers crossed it is successful.
I can't remember what clubs have junior teams but the age groups are varying too much between each one to get anything going. I believe the association will be fielding underage teams for 14's,16's and 21's which is a positive.

FlyingHigh, from what I can remember from the delegates meeting about a month back:

Under 10s- Lenswood and Birdwood
Under 13s- Birdwood and maybe Paracombe and Cambrai
Under 15s- Birdwood and Palmer

The league explored the option of going U10/13/15 rather than the traditional U10/12/14/16 but this didn’t make much difference.

Probably the most alarming age group IMO is the Under 10s. You would have thoughts this would have been the easiest grade to get 10-12 players for, particularly as the team can be topped up with any interested girls. 14s and 16s will always be more of a challenge for small clubs/towns once kids find other interests or start going to high school out of the area and make new mates.

On the senior side of things, there will be 8 A grades and 8 B Grade teams. The only change from the last meeting was Lenswood nominating a B grade to bring that comp to 8 teams.

Thanks Silverfox, saintal.

Would something like this work? Four sides in, say u/12 and u/15, broken into northern (Palmer, Cambrai, Mount Pleasant, Eden Valley), central (Birdwood, Gum), western (Paracombe, Kersbrook), southern (Lenswood, Mount Torrens, excess from Loby, Woodside??).
At least kids will be playing reasonably competitive cricket each week against their own age groups - the u/15's wouldn't have to take it easy because they are playing against 10 year olds. Players would still be aligned to their orginal clubs.
Surely their are 50 kids at each of these age groups who want to play cricket?

On a related note, I thought one of the positives Kersbrook were hoping for in their housing development was to sure up numbers for their sporting teams, but they are struggling to get junior footy teams, and no cricket sides at all last year?

So Echunga/Mylor will be an A grade 'club' in A&EH, but then Mylor will field C's & D's in HCA & Echunga keep their B's. A sign of a not-too-distant full merger?

Doubt it, wont achieve anything. Both clubs currently have heaps of seniors in the lower grades.

And as Happy Valley now know, you cant field 2 sides in the same grade!

Where is Ryan Hunter playing this year? Heard he quit Uraidla a while back.

And how will Aldgate Oval handle A grade in 2 weeks time? Should be some monster scores in that game. Handy % for both sides.

Have you gone to Echunga or stayed at the Pipers Banker? Can't believe it's cricket season already! Should be an interesting first round. Any news on recruits etc? Heard Lofty may struggle with 4 or 5 A graders not playing and no replacements... could be a long season for them. Interesting to see how Uris and the Gate go with new skippers.

Incorrect, there will be a Echunga/Mylor A grade "team" playing in the A&EH, with the clubs remaining seperate and alined to their assoc. I beleive neither club wants a merge and at this point that is not the aim of this joint side.

Any news from the A&EH? pick up's, loses? The lads down at the creek are sounding like a bit of a force to be recond with if the recruits people are talking about are indeed there.

Captain Coach I'm led to believe. Uraidla had S.Sweet lined up but changed it's mind when half the squad said they'd retire!

Know very little about them but would think both would be around the mark come Finals time although anything could happen as making the top 4 in an 11 team comp isn't that easy considering the uneven draw. Bad luck if you draw one of the weaker teams in a 1 dayer and not a 2 dayer which effectively all but denies an outright result which are results that substantially influences which teams make the finals.
Will be a very interesting season with the inclusion of Loby & Woodside from TV and with Bremer/Call returning to 'A' grade and with Echunga teaming up with Mylor.
My early predictions based on not much realy would be that -
Lobelthal
Nairne
Woodside
Strath
Echunga
L.Creek

would be the realistic chances of contending finals whilst

Hahndorf
Wistow

would be a surprise on last years performances Whilst

Mt Barker
Ashbourne
Bremer/Call

would be a major shock if they came anywhere near finals participation.

Ummm...I don't understand what's actually incorrect about my STATEMENT. Surely if you're playing as a "team" that must be a club of some sort? Even if it's just that one grade. I'll take on board the 'neither club wants a merger' input but this is a strange way of showing that a merger wouldn't work.

It is only a technicality, and is open to peoples opinion. and who suggested a merger wouldnt work? I personaly think it has the potential to work, but I dont think it is something either club is interested in currently.

My picks for the first round, not going off much seeing as it is the first week.

Lobethal V Echunga/Mylor, big test for the boys this week, will be interesting to see how the team go's in its first game together. pains me to say but will have to go with Loby from what i have heard they are a strong side, happy to be wrong tho

hahndorf to easily knock of cally, will be interesting to see how the box heads go this year, have some good young players but were on the downward slide last year after a long run at the top

game of the round! will have to go Mt barker, buckland to take a few wickets and bowl all day no doubt

Woodside to take it out over wistow, they will be glad to get there game at the hill out of the way early in the year!

Strath V nairne, see nairne being to strong again for the stallions
