I've never been involved in a game like that in my life.. Was some unbelievable clean hitting, and the ground was lightning quick so most scoring shots were either 4 or 6 - a few metres to the side of a fieldsman and it was a boundary.

Credit to Atkins in particular but also Mills, they were just phenomenal and was one of those days.. Chance less 135no from Mills and Atkins only gave one chance which was when he was around 119... Off my bowling haha.. But that's it.

Atkins first 100 would've come off around 40 balls I reckon

NEK is always great to bat on as you said value for shots but 10 an over is crazy batting.

Mills is the best bat in comp for mine and Atkins is a very clean hitter of the ball as you said. You've got a fair bowling line up as well just a bad day?

First 10 overs bowled far too short and got smashed, Atkins raced to 50 off 19 balls and his hundred came in the 14th over off 43 balls.

After that the ball was snot, I've seen training balls in better condition and just seemed to be the one or two balls an over that went to the boundary.

Dropped Atkins on 119 after drinks and had a couple of blokes in the field who are unfit and we'll just not the best people when things go bad, so dropped away, got lazy and basically gave up - 230 came off the last 20.

Captain went off injured just after drinks with a torn driver which hurt.

We still have a few to come back - Broadstock, Quick, Keylock, Mansueto so not all is lost

Any reason why Division 1 clubs aren't being provided with umpires this year. Surely clubs are happy to pay to be officiated, heard Div 2 games had a umpire in round 1 while Div1 games didn't? Seems strange

What happened to all the umps? Comp use to have a heap. Rooster, George, Bob, Col, Mullet, Grant. Easy $110 a day for them umpiring in that comp

It was discussed with the clubs at the Winter delegates meeting and then at the AGM.
Umpires will not be appointed to games just because we have them - there is a general feeling that some of the umpires are not up to standard and clubs cant justify paying the $100 a week for a below standard umpire. There were plenty of complaints last season.

The umpires we still have (George, Grant, Malcolm, Col) will still be utilised but not necessarily every week, and not limited to Div 1 - they will also be appointed to games in lower grades that are deemed to be a higher risk of incident.

Personally I don't care if we have an umpire or not - the only downside is it's an extra person you need to find to help out. We didn't have an umpire vs Fitzroy and it seemed to work ok, Pidge umpired the whole day and was very good.

So can I assume that some clubs are struggling financially & can't afford umpires? Regardless of who is umpiring occasional mistakes are inevitable, I would of thought that umpires would perform better doing the job on a regular basis. Hardly encouraging for people considering umpiring. If umpires are available they should be in Division 1.
