It will be even better when the Zadow Report is fully implemented and the Eagles and the Seahorses get to share their future side by side. One big happy family.

Changing topics slightly... development teams seem to be all the rage at the moment. The national U/17 and U/19 championships have Cricket Australia U/15 and U/17 development teams respectively competing in them. The Australia A quad series coming up with South Africa A also features a CA development team.

SACA have sort of done this with a SACA U/15 team playing in the U/17 carnival. Also sometimes the A Grade one day/T20 program has included an SA U/19 team.

Will there ever be a push to have an SA U/19 team competing in A grade and an U/17 team in B Grade? An U/15 team in C Grade? Would it be beneficial?

Or float back to the bottom of the sea floor :D

Interesting that both GDCC and ACC provided more junior squad members in the Under 15 & 17 SACA training sqauds than WT & PT A , even Woodville had more than WT in the 15's

Perhaps it is time to do a complete overhaul of Premier Cricket as they did in 1897?

Use Federal electorates as boundaries/zones, given they are an even distribution of population. This is close to what Zadow Report suggested.

Port/Woodville - Port Adelaide
WT/Glenelg - Hindmarsh
Sturt/Adelaide - Boothby
Prospect/Uni - Adelaide
East Torrens/Kens - Sturt
TTG - Makin
SD - Kingston
Move ND to Gawler - Wakefield/Grey
New Club at Mt Barker - Mayo/Barker
SACA Underage squads as 10th team as suggested by Tony Clifton.

It may be worthwhile looking at the whole figures though. You neglected to say the following:

West Torrens have the equal highest representation in the State Under 17 Men's squad.
West Torrens have the equal third highest representation in the State Under 14 Boys' squad.
West Torrens have the third highest representation in the Under 18 Female squad.
West Torrens have the third highest representation in the Under 15 Girls' squad.
West Torrens and Port Adelaide each share the highest representation in the SAPSASA Girls' squad (so much for no young people in the area!)

Cheers

Back to the future - the old Colts team that was around in the 60s and 70s? best of teh promising junior playing with a one or two "old pros"??

Interestingly the Darwin and District comp introduced an Emerging players team to their A grade last year. 10 years ago the NTIS team played in the 1st grade comp.

Now Darwin 1st grade cricket is somewhere between B&C grade (despite the fact three NT products haveing full SACA contracts (Richardson, Andrews and Weathers) but the principle reamins have your better juniors playing together in a higher level competition.

Uni out SACA juniors in??
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I was talking about the 2016/17 squads, not 2015/16. Think you will find a decrease when they are published.
Obviously not all clubs have female/girls sides.

pretty sure electorate's are even in people of a voting age, not sure that they would all have the same amount of junior cricketers to draw from. But i do like the concept
Interesting about a team in Gawler, SACA would need to spend alot of dollars to get it up and going with currently no facilities at all. It would require at least 2 new ovals and full facilities (changerooms, clubrooms etc) at one of them and if the new club had juniors it would require another 2 brand new ovals. I have a feeling that a new club in the area wont have juniors.

There is money there. They've spent $900k on Premier League in last 3 years. They're willing to throw $500k plus at two clubs to merge that don't want to. They've spent $500k on upgrading existing grade pitches. It would be great if they invested to grow the game.

Forget Gawler, not in SACA's long term plans to have a team based there. Think the long term plan is to relocate an existing team up the hill to Mt Barker.

Do you think Sturt would be happy about that?

One of the most successful clubs in Grade cricket.

A team at Gawler isn't necessary IMO. Heaps of Barossa kids play for the Jets now. Has the Northern Expressway made it even easier?

Mt Barker is probably 25 minutes from Sturt and heaps of kids from the hills play grade cricket now.

Don't think either of these options would bring extra quality to the competition.

Could SACA instead invest in a boarding facility & transport grant so that players from far flung country regions are able to play grade cricket regularly?

It was in the plan and there's still a whisper of it happening every now and again. I'm not sure if it's still in SACA's plans, though.
The plan is for a new sporting facility to be built at a new housing development, Springwood, just minutes out of Gawler.
The new sporting facility would become home to South Gawler Football Club, while also become the base for a district cricket side (South Gawler CC would also move there - with a turf wicket, hence they're not putting turf in at their current home ground).
However, sales of the housing estate have been slow and Lend Lease, the original developers, have sold out to some new investors. Plans for the sporting facility have stalled as a result.
It will be interesting to see whether the new sporting facility remains in the plans for the new developers.

A grade club based in Mt Barker... If and when the new oval/facility is opened the talk up here is Sturt maybe playing some SANFL games at the ground. In terms of cricket, there are NO turf wickets in the near vicinity of Mt Barker. Closest places are Callington, Strathalbyn, Langhorne Creek & Ashbourne... All of which other than Ashbourne have significantly less rainfall than Barker. Personally a good deck on a new oval with a team based out of Mt Barker in the long term sounds fantastic. Over the years many Hills cricketers have played grade cricket at the likes of Sturt, Kensington & Southern D. I would forecast plenty of wet wickets at a Mt Barker ground in the early part of the cricket season. Not insurmountable but an issue I suspect. Even in our local comp, on a damp Saturday the hard wicket games get a start, those on turf don't.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

Can people stop taking the Independent Zadow report as gospel? Yes some parts of it have been implemented such as the balls and some elements of the ground preparations. However, anything to do with Mergers/Structure of the competition has been overridden by a report commissioned by the board completed by the CEO.

Yes, this report needs to be made public - given it is the basis of such a big decision.

Given they have essentially ignored most of the Zadow Report, even gone reverse to what it says in some cases - it is ironic that they are using bits of it to justify the plans for the WT/PA merger - yet completely ignore all the other clubs that were suggested.

I believe the "Ghost" amalgamation report done by a SACA staff member was not even given to SACA Board members. No hard copy, no electronic form, it was just read to them............how in hell can a board member take in all this info., study it and make informed criticism and decisions when it's done in such an underhanded manner. This report is so elusive nobody can seem to be able to get a copy of it. No wonder SACA don't won't a parliamentary enquiry into their operations.
