What an interesting last round in the A grade with two outright wins and a tie. With finals now upon us there are so many questions to be answered .. can enc bay go back to back? will their batting hold up? Will willunga finally perform in march? could mclaren add to their recent successes with ifould back in form? Has compass now got a bowling lineup that can defend 200+ scores? should be a great finals series good luck to all!

Yeah your right Red Baron, it should be a cracker. the 4 sides who made it have been the most consistent this year with Aldinga the unlucky team to miss out. But what a great bunch of blokes with a thrilling Tie on Saturday.

Enc Bay Vs Willunga @ Pt Elliott
Shaping to be a real cracker. Enc Bay have got some genuine match winners and are the reigning champs. Willunga have got soem wise heads who have performed brilliantly this year. My tip is with The Bays i just reckon their bowling line-up is very strong and can defend any target. But it will be a close one on the best oval going around in country cricket.

McLaren Districts Vs Mount Compass @ Rapid Bay (the arse end of the world)
Should be another great game as they often are between these two sides. Mount Compass have got soem game breakers and some really big hitters, but McLaren are very disciplined with their bowling and will welcome back Cam Hockey for the game. The experienced blokes are the key for compass but obviously im tipping McLaren to win due to their bowling attack. But will be a cracker.

Who is looking like winning the association trophies in the A grade guys? What trophies do they give out?

I think it is:

Batting Average
Batting Aggregate
Bowling Average
Bowling Aggregate
Fielding

I think the big question is will Mclaren vale go into the match and use 11 bowlers again??? im sure players like Num Conner and Spurling would be licking their lips at the prospect

Well what the hell are the GSCA thinking! to have A grade cricket finals being played at Rapid Bay is a joke! I would say both teams would rather play at Aldinga than that crap hole! They don't play there all year, the other match is at pt Elliot where the rest of the finals are being played. So why not have it at Goolwa? easy the second best (my view the best, at least it's flat) oval in the comp! It's bad enough that we have a prelim final, be about the only comp in the state that doe's for cricket.

I am with you for some of what your saying Once upon a time. Goolwa is the 2nd best pitch in the league. PT Elliott is the best for sure. But to play at Rapid Bay is a joke. Apparently they complained to the league about not having finals at their venue (which is probably fair enough because there is the opportunity to get money over the bar) so what does the league go and do. They oblige by giving them a final but they send the bloody A Grade down there. What a joke.......

However i have heard similar whispers to Offcutter.........

I understand Rapid Bays cause but send a grade that actually play's there through the year! A grade should always be on the best grounds....

IIRC Rapid Bay have hosted finals regularly in the last few seasons although I think they have always been the lower grades.
My understanding is that the A Grade has been scheduled at Rapid Bay this weekend, the One Day Comp the following week and the B Grade Grand Final the following weekend. This was to ensure that there was a level of 'fairness' so that the same teams don't have to go back & forth to Rapid Bay in the coming weeks. If the 2 McLarens vs Compass games were to be switched this weekend it would mean either McLarens or Compass B Grades (or both) would be making 4 trips to Rapid Bay in the next 3 weeks. If Compass were to make the B Grade GF, it would be 6 trips in 5 weeks.

I guess the main issue the league has in scheduling finals games is ground availability with footy trials starting etc. I've noticed only 1 game at Goolwa and none at Willunga. Willunga would be ideal for a McLarens vs Compass game in either grade for nuetrality and closeness. I neither agree nor disagree with the scheduling, I don't really care where we play. I'm just curious as to everyone's real reasons for not wanting to play at Rapid Bay. Is it really because you think the ground isn't good enough or is it because you don't want to travel that far?

Get over yourselves you lot. rapid bay is a great place to play cricket. good oval, good viewing, good people running it. so what if you have to drive a few extra minutes. why shouldnt they be allowed to host an a grade final. i would love to play at rapid bay at any chance. especially finals. as a bowler, run ups are pretty good and as a bat the oval is a perfect size. great value for shots. rapids have to drive pretty much an hour to most venues once they play an away game through the year and dont complain. i hope the game is played there. would be a shame to see it moved.

whos winning the cricketer of the year. checked TABsportsbet, current odds are

$1.40 - Elliott - most impressive stats, but are stats everything?
$1.45 - Lintern - similar stats to Elliott, a few more runs, a few less wickets. done this captaining the second placed team though
$2.50 - Kuss - 36 wickets @ 14 with 240 runs. single handedly kept goolwa competitive.
$9.50 - B. Garrard - 450 runs @ 41. once again the one man band. no wickets will hurt his chances.
$51 - Any other player

IMO winner has to come from these 4. thoughts people?

who cares where mclaren and compass play, its a non event anyway. encounter bay will win it again. best bowling line up in the comp. if they bat first and have runs on the board. going to be next door to impossible to beat.

Kuss or lintern to win the COY for me. Elliott is the old balls brigade at willunga. COY should go to blokes who perform under pressure etc. not take the last 3 wickets each week. stats wise hes had a good year. but stats can lie.

can anyone confirm if mclaren are having an open mic night at the bocce club to raise funds to entice simon pistilli back to playing cricket?

Well Jonas, ring the GSCA and get your match moved from Pt Elliot to Rapid if you love it so much. Sure McLarens and Compass would much rather play at Pt Elliot.
