Ive only played on it twice and both times if the ball is bowled short it loses all pace and just sits up for the back foot players to hit it wherever they want. Therefore I doubt it will hurt anyone. If anything it teaches the kids not to bowl short.

Some may remember the old stick down pitch at Bridgey years ago, now that was dangerous, no idea it the ball was going to bounce ankle high or head high.

Yes I received a broken thumb from big Carl on that one.

Fixtures are up for HCA - A Grade playing 14 rounds which is good, with one weekend featuring 2 one day games.

couldn't have asked for a better result fixture wise in the A's.

Makes it even so washed out or heated out games won't make so much of an impact on the results.

Great. So you all play each other twice, one being a two-dayer. Seems fair.
Anyone else apprehensive about throwing the arm over and having pins and needles for the next 2 days? Might just be me...coupla years outta the game will do that.

Potentially only a 5 team A Grade comp in TVCA. We (Lenswood) have had to put in a very late request to drop down, due to mostly unforseen circumstances (i.e we've lost 4 or 5 of our better cricketers within the past fortnight or so).

Hopefully common sense will prevail and the request is permitted, as us playing A Grade will do nobody any favours and could be the beginning of the end for the club. Will need to scrap the B grade also.

As for A Grade predictions:

1-Lobethal (Looking for 8 straight flags)
2-Woodside (surely they will win a SF this year?)

daylight

3- Gumeracha
4- Mt Torrens
5- Paracombe

daylight

6- Lenswood??

The league isn't in real good shape. Not too many clubs on the grow, one team dominating the A Grade (not their fault), and clubs dying off slowly, lack of junior sides.

It's time they did what they've done in the past for the good of the comp. Make a Lobethal Gold and a Lobethal Black and Lenswood can go back to A2s to rebuild.

News on a couple of echunga recruits.

Was talking to a few of their players the other day. Bowling stocks bolstered by a big quick from England along with Allan Cooper from mylor. They have also managed to hold on to Brock Gifford for the upcoming season.

Callange for a top 4 position may be on the cards?

Echunga have also picked up an opening batsman from the great southern league. Which should help the miners as making runs last season looked to be their major problem.

This is actually going to happen. Two Lobethal A Grades. Unsure if they will divide their top 10-11 players equally among the two teams, or leave last years team as it is, with the second team to be A2 Players/youngsters. Good on them though for challenging themselves.

Season start has been pushed back to October 16.

Woodside Warrior gun recruit Nick 'Slim' Johns hasn't had the perfect start to the year after being struck down with swine flu! If there's dodgey bacon out there be sure that Slim will find it!

Next season lets set up a rebel league in the hills

div 1
mix of 1 day and 2 day cricket
8 team comp max per grade
relegation for the club bottom 2 of the A Grade (forces teams to field best available players)

div 2
mixture of 1 day and 2 day cricket
8 team comp max per grade
promotion for top 2 teams of the a grade

An example of how this would work would be

Div 1

1Meadows A and B
2Aldgate A and B and C
3Onka A and B and C
4Echunga A and B and C
5Mylor A and B
6Brigewater A and B and C
7SCIBS A and B
8Meadows A and B

Div 2
1Stirling A and B
2Uradlia A and B
3Basket Range A and B
4Mount Lofty A and B and C
5Belair A and B
6Happy Valley A and B and C
7Linden Park (Mylor City) A
8Eastern Rangers A and B

Each Div has 2 team ie a grade and b grade and in the future if enough teams a c grade with the club being relegated and promoted

The B and C grade could be cross div comp as it is not related to club promotion where as the A grade in each div is.

I think an ideal system would be. Div 1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc. like Ametuer footy. Abolish the need for A, B, C grade etc etc.

Take a club like Bridgewater for example their first XI may be playing in Div 1 whilst their second XI may only be in div 4. Basket Ranges' first XI for example may only be in Div 3.

Ensures parity (in terms of standard) in competition each week. Also allows for Torrens Valley, Hills and A&EH leagues to combine because playing numbers seem to be on the decline accross the board!

im pretty sure SCIB have missed out on finals in A grade 2 years in a row by marginal percentage.
finishing 6th each time, but i could be wrong.

Anyway,

what's peoples opinion on the top 5 this year?
Will be another case of Meadows, Uri, Onkas, Bridgy, and Aldgate dominating the top 5 or will this season be closer than what people think?
