40 over games, 8 over max per bowler, play the game out (don't draw stumps when result achieved).

From a personal point of view I would have preferred to keep two day cricket, but I can understand the need for change in our comp. Things 'aint what they used to be.

Has there been any backlash on the decision by TVCA to change to all one day cricket as there was (and still is) with AEHCA?

Not that I've heard Roxy. Even the most historically anti-one day clubs (Gumeracha and Paracombe) were supportive of the change for this season.

I have my reservations about the change, but realise I'm in the minority.

Thats good to hear, most people involved in our Association are either supportive or have come to terms with the decision. I would prefer to keep a mix of one and two dayers also but at the same time completely understand the decision the majority of clubs made in voting for one day cricket. Here's to a good season ahead.

So what's the format then in the aehca? How many teams in 'A' grade? Home and away? Player movements?
So many questions!

AEHCA A Grade is all 45 over matches and unless you've only just returned from the moon you'd already know this. Still only 7 teams in A Grade which is disappointing in the short term, but there is an indication from other clubs that they are serious about building to A Grade so in the medium term it looks positive. The specifics include 9 overs max per bowler, fielding restrictions of maximum 5 outside the 30 yard circle and max 5 on the leg side at any one time. play for match points with net run rate and the match finishes once a team has won. Finals structure sees 1 V 2 and 3 V4. Winner of 1 V 2 goes to GF and Looser of 1 V 2 plays winner of 3 V 4 for the other spot in the GF. This effectively gives teams finishing 1 and 2 a double chance.
Not sure about any player movements sorry.

Im going to miss my old mate Inside Word commenting on my post with some dopey ill-conceived remark followed by a personal attack on me and my club

Thanks for that Roxy, it should make for some interesting and hopefully close games? Your mate wasn't that bad, he certainly livened things up and had a different slant on things!!

Lets hope so as this was one of the reasons the Association moved to the one day format, the second being to get more clubs in A Grade. It is going to take a season or two to achieve more teams in A Grade but let's hope there are more interesting and close games this season to encourage clubs to take that step up to A Grade sooner. I would personally like to see either an 8 or 10 team A Grade comp.

Creeks oval & pitches under a foot of water again as i type this for the 2nd time in the last few weeks

Will Ashbournes Oval dry out by Christmas?

Season openers today with Strath V Langhorne Creek and Nairne V Wistow. My money is on Creeks to get up over the Stallions and Nairne to knock off Wistow. I think Creeks might give the top four a shake this season. B and C Grade draws have been released with matches commencing next week.

Creeks gave the Top 4 a shake last year ;)

Strath too good. PERFECT conditions at Strath. Good pitch, lightning fast outfield. Wouldn't it be great for every oval to have access to a Caravan Park Gold Mine enabling NO EXPENSE to be spared on it to have it in top notch nick. Good luck to them.
Creeks 9/177 (45 overs) Strath 4/181 (38.3 overs) were 4/84 b4 the Abbott brothers took charge with the bat.

Nairne 5/329 Sloon Tait 160 (13 sixes) smashed Wistow 124

predicting the Top 4 to likely stay the same as last year.

Some interesting results from the first games of the season under the new structure. Interestingly it appears some of the more vocal opponents of the change "lowered" themselves to play anyway...... Be interested to hear how the "players" enjoyed the first hit out.
