Did you ever have Shaun Obrian at one end Craig Wilson the other with Big Grenville slagging you off calling you a 'pimply face little fag' I did.

Wasn't enjoyable that's for sure

Drakey the left arm prick bruising my ribs big time.
Tomlinson wasn't fun cracked my helmet once
Col Rundle was very good not just quick but very good.
I really rated Obrian from Salis North
A little later than these blokes but again rated Ratcliffe
Garrard was handy, Gawlar Centrals had a good bowler can't remember his name? Maybe Norton?
Westies opener North was good

Opening the batting at 15/16 to these blokes wasn't fun. They were like sharks smelling blood when a young lad faces up to them.

I loved it tho

Yep no sympathy back then

I never saw Willow in his prime but was part of the Eastern park div2 premiership side where we beat Virginia we had him plus

-Ritchie smith
-Brett Rowland
-Adam Whittaker
-Paul Johnson (apparently was a left arm quick in his day)
-Benny hancock
-Craig Wilson
-Kenny McConnell
-Grant Richardson (won the association bowling that year)
-Darren Knox
-Wayne Osborne

When I first started paying Salisbury North regulary they had Anthony Johnston and Jossy opening there bowling with Coombes (was McIntyre back then) under the lid just ripping shreds of us young openers, no limits back then

Yep the old u/15's in the morning facing Chris Duval and occasionally Ryan Harris if we played 17's and then bowling to Mark Cosgrove and then seniors in in the afternoon facing Glenn North, Brett Tomlinson, Gary Sutton, Ben Moore, Andy Carmen, Anthony Heindrich, Col Rundle, Damien Newman, Natsias

Good times

Col Rundle was my first cricket vice-captain.
Dion Jones was skipper.
Under 14s at Elizabeth.

Loved playing with Sutts, he was brisk. Full of life.

Yep probably my favourite cricketer to play with

I loved opening the batting with him when he first got back from Elizabeth Districts.

On a couple of occasions he hit the first ball of the game for six

When he got the coaching gig at Eastern park last year it was very tempting to go back

I still see a fair bit of Ritchie and love a good chat with him

I remember one night, myself and Matt Simmons got ridiculously drunk at the Downsy and wandered around Liz Downs ripping out people's letterboxes. We collected about seven each and then lined them all up at the front of Ritchie's house. I can't imagine what he thought the next morning. As far as I know, he still doesn't know who did it. lol

Think it was around 95/96 i played there in Under 11's, Huitema was one of the joint captains if i remember correctly. Pretty sure we played against Shannon Hurn from a side in Gawler too. Was around 18 or 20 junior sides in that comp

Kev Norton was the Gawler Central player, seemed to bowl with a bit more venom at the dog track, loved to chuck in the short ball.

Garrard hated me, I opened the batting one day against him when I was about 18 and all I got was bouncers and bodyline, a bit of karma really.

Drakey bowled with great precision and his left arm inswingers complimented Glenn North's pace and outswing.

I remember playing 14's against Virginia and they had this bearded kid called George Sissis, no shit, the ball swung both ways in the one delivery and you could hear the zing like it was a hive of bees, I was about 11.

Ah nothing gets the heart racing as a batsman than hearing the fizzing of the ball as it shoots past your ears :D

Doesnt ring a bell. I know there was Huitema, Chris Kenwood and James Rogers.

So what did happen to the club? Is it Craigmore now?

Yeah mate, CD Rugby closed down and then they changed their name to Craigmore, possibly to attract a wider range of people, it seemed to work, they have many junior teams now and despite losing big numbers of seniors they have generally fielded at least 4 sides.

Ah the memories, back when grade 1&2 was a decent level of cricket!

Sean OBrien has very slippery on his day, loved saying "just like shelling peas".
Eastern Pk had a couple of lefties back in the 90s that could send them down too, can't remember their names, think one was Steve Warren but not 100%.
Garrard was quick and a lefty, scared the living beejusus out of me one day so I went played a few seasons with him just for him to get me in the nets every week, prick!
I remember facing Norton in a semi final at Smithfield oval late in the day after we had bowled Centrals out, all I wanted to do was see out the days play in fading light and he send down a couple I didn't see, fortunately in survived the day and won the following day.

Good times

Some famous names amongst that group.. and plenty of wickets.

Must say miss the days where you'd get butterflies before batting, and the adrenalin is rushing because you knew you were about to face some fierce fast bowling.. now days a decent quick really is few and far between - and even more rare to have more than one in a side.

Yeah even playing b grade which was around div 3, 4, 5 then you came across blokes like Garrard (riverside), Drakey, Danny Stevens and other older blokes who were going back down the grades along with young up and coming quicks such as Willy Serle (when at two wells), Kev Thomas, Chris McLean (Willaston), Rocco (Para Teachers)

i think 6/8 div1 sides now have a genuine quick but yeah none really have two genuine quicks.

Not sure if they won much in premierships but one the scariest attacks i faced was Mick Frajer, Andy Carmen, Ben Moore and Daniel Oliver all in the same side at Craigmore for a while there.

Was a fearsome bowling combination at Craigmore for while and we had some success, then came weddings & kids and all the boys went their separate ways, we then had R Howe come on and clean up the tail when needed.

The next season the whole team including Peter moved across to Eastern Park as they re-started junior cricket and a fair few of us lads played footy.

I see him often at the APFL, we've chatted a bit and he's a top bloke.
