The only downfall would be that there would have to be an extra week scheduled in, still possible though.

Why the extra week? The sunday following the sat of the final round and ya dont need a week...keep the season length the same, only need a sunday for the final for the top 2 after 7 oneday games..

Something like this:
Rounds 1 to 4 are 2 dayers.
Rounds 5 to 11 are 1 dayers followed by what would be round having 2nd and 3rd play off on the Saturday then the winner play the highest rank side from the 1 dayers on the Sunday.
Then follow it up with rounds 12 to 14 being two dayers and the top two play off in the GF. It would still be the same amount of weeks cricket, the only difference is that only the top 3 make the 1 day finals and top 2 make the GF of the 2 dayers.
They could amalgamate the points between the two comps to determine who would be relegated.

Just a thought :-k

Sounds complicated and messy. Would mean first up that 4th place gets nothing at all, also means teams placed 4-8 at the end of the one day section sit back for 2 weeks twiddling their thumbs waiting for cricket to start up again, just a couple of games after the Christmas break.

4th doesn't deserve to get anything, they don't in domestic cricket, besides, it's only one week that the rest of the comp sits out a week.

4th don't get anything in the shield comp, but they do in the one day comp. But that's a moot point anyway. Domestic cricket is a far cry from parklands cricket. But it's quite normal in most Australian sports to reward the top half the chance to win the premiership. Otherwise we could just revert to a EPL type race and give the minor premier the trophy.

As for it being difficult to give everyone a go in one dayers, how would that be fixed adding one day finals? T20 is hard to give everyone a go, 40 over innings one day games usually sees everyone get a chance to bat or bowl.

I don't mind so much the idea of adding a one day champions thing on Sunday, but I know a lot of guys (particularly those not so fit anymore) would struggle to play two one day games in 2 days. But overall, I don't see what's wrong with the comp as it is.

Lol. I was thinking of me and how I tend to limp around all Sunday feeling sorry for myself after one day games.

There's a little more incentive to get up for a Sunday match being a final.
I don't know where I mentioned that one day finals would fix the problem of giving everyone a go. I merely stated that I find them a pain in the arse. Have a look at some random matches on the PDCA website and look how many passengers there are each week.
With clubs looking elsewhere to better their clubs some changes seem imminent, besides, I don't see the point of the one dayers given the current format. I'd rather see 6 team divisions and play each other in two 2 dayers.

We were having a laugh Saturday evening sitting under the verandah at Smithfield Oval, Damian, James, Shano and myself were sitting there half broken while 3 of the younger lads were kicking the footy around.

The Barossa format works well. Only the A1's play one day finals. The semis are on the sunday the week after the one dayers finish with 1v4 and 2v3 then the following sunday is the final. Just means if you make the final you have 2 weeks in a row of sat/sun cricket but because its only the top grade there doesnt seem to be too many issues

Yeah, a lot of sides have guys who don't bat or bowl in the one day games, but usually when the club let's the captain have guys batting 9,10 and 11 who don't bowl.

Yeah, that sucks, it's a rule at our club that 9, 10 & Jack all have to bowl, unless it's me, it doesn't bother me if it's best for the team balance.

Yeah, we try to do the same thing. Can't always be done of course, but all the captains have been good all season. Wouldn't be many blokes that haven't had a fair few bats or a lot of overs this season.

Will be a very interesting half an hour this Saturday.

The "main man" as you called him is in the sheds, failed, but just means he is closer to a big knock again!

Captain is at the crease however looking good, and hopefully should steer us to victory.

I havent batted yet, hopefully not required.

Yeah Lm, the plan would be to declare when we get the runs. Gives us the best chance for an outright I guess.

We will either be out or have the runs by 10 overs so either way gives 60 overs for an outright result for either team - I know the outright would help us BUT also gives smithfield a chance to get off the bottom so I would think in both teams interest.

I'd say the game will go pretty close to the full journey, runs are difficult on Smithfield Oval atm, Raed back in this week should help our cause in both disciplines.
Donny doesn't waste time during breaks, tea felt like about 8 minutes and drinks was straight back into it, I only just made my way off the ground and had to turn around again.
