Only games it makes sense to stop are the stand alone one day/Twenty20 competitions where Net Run Rate is used as the separator.

Every few years the rules need a couple of astute cricket rules aficionados to go over them and rewrite. All the little changes, additions and errors over time means it ends up a bit messy. The poster above should be on the panel!

I believe it was "junior parents" that wanted it stopped.
Completely agree.
2nd innings lets lads who bowl and bat less to have a go.
it also means if country people travel down, their time isn't wasted if a game ends early.

Gosaints wrote:the biggest issue here is saca making it up as they go. I am aware of many examples of this.
in womens 1st grade, teams that are scheduled to play port adelaide are awarded a forfeit and given the same points as the team that scored the most points that round.
in womens 2nd grade round 5 Glenelg had to forfeit against Kensington as our pitch was not prepared. no issue with that. Kensington were not awarded the same points as the team that scored the most that round (18.41) they are given 15 points - why the difference, both are forfeits yet different points are awarded.

That is another example of SACA Premier Cricket Department stuffing up.
Under the rules they should get the highest points of the round.

GDCC had ND forfeit last round, no points for that yet.

Believe it or not you don't get any points for a forfeit in the Ds!

It goes on points per game.

A forfeit (or washout or heat out) counts as zero points but no game played.

And apparently MyCricket can't handle that points system so they've had to send a separate spreadsheet around to clubs.

Incorrect on the forfeit part.
Correct on the drawn or Abandoned Match

Forfeits
309. A forfeit shall count as a win to the team receiving the forfeit:

Men’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Premiers
310. Any team on receiving a forfeit in a match shall be awarded the maximum number of match points gained
by any team of the same Premier in the same round of matches. (Refer to Bylaw 300 for consequent forfeits
in lower Premiers and to Bylaw 301 for fines that may be imposed).

Story from Brisbane Grade Cricket 1st grade, team been penalised for breaching "spirit of cricket".

Basically, last minor round game and 2nd vs 3rd playing, the second team only needed draw to get home final, so batted nearly two days making nearly 800. The 3rd team did not want to play this team next week, so they declared at 1/14, therefore handing them the win and they went to 1st place.

Officials have reversed the result, banned the captain for rest of year, deducted 8 points from next years Premiership table.

What's the difference with how teams here declare at 0/0 to set up outright results, always thought that was against the spirit too.

Good reason why the last round should be one day matches so no contrived results can occur!

The club has appealed the decision, not sure what happened as Semis on tomorrow,

It's a tricky one.

The difference I guess is that teams declaring behind or at 0/0 are usually doing so to try to win the game and gain some points for an outright result. Whereas this was a deliberate attempt to lose.

But they would say that by declaring behind and losing this game they are giving themselves the best chance of winning a premiership.

I saw in a game this year a team 9 wickets down with a set batter trying to take all the strike and protect the No 11 as they tried to hold on for a draw. The last ball of an over he hit one to point and they ran a single. The fielding team let the ball run and it trickled over the boundary meaning they got to bowl at the No 11 next over.

So is smart gamesmanship like that allowed within individual games but smart gamesmanship like avoiding the team who'd just belted you for 800 not allowed?

Cricket always manages to throw up something you haven't seen before.

A bit dumb, they weren't going to chase down 800 anyway.

Exactly, they are being penalised for not trying to win the game, but in doing so they were trying to win the premiership. Surely the second trumps the first.

If I were the league, I'd reverse the result, make it a draw, but not penalise the team next year.

Great example. This is good cricket. Should be encouraged.

Both teams who need to "win" and not draw won the toss and sent the opposition in.

Not working for Uni yet with Kensington 0/39.

But Adelaide be rapt with TTG 4/37 and Head out. Will test Gullies strong batting line up now!
