Probably the right decision to not award the C Grade flag. It's a tough one though.

Meyer Shield this weekend. As is usually the case TVCA missing some of its better cricketers (ie Rathjen. S. Barnes, Woollard, Medlow, Ali) but should be competitive on home soil. Games to be played at Birdwood, Gumeracha and Cambrai.

If i normally played at Lanhgorne Creek or Strath id be pretty excited about giving up my weeknd for a game at Cambrai

Birdwood & Gum aren’t much better.

LC and Strath had their turn last season..

But does provide one reason as to why associations have players opting out of playing.

Surely it just gets played on turf every year?

Think you're correct. I played in the last MT carnival, which was 2014. Was unusual playing on stick-down mats - not great.

Yes, Ideally you'd like to think that a carnival of such supposed stature would play their games on a TRUE cricket surface i.e. TURF but with only A&EHCA with 4 Turf decks (L Creek, Strath & Ashbourne with the Callington pitch not really up to scratch tho credit to them that they have done a wonderful job in developing their outfield) and GSCA having only 1 Turf Deck (E Bay) i cant see all the Associations agreeing to play it in the A&EHCA every year without it being rotated around.

Anyway, Normal programming has resumed with Hills taking out the Meyer Shield after last years hiccup iirc?
Very disappointing showing again by A&EHCA . Credit to the guys that put their hands up to play but until they get close to their best players to commit they'll struggle. Having said that i guess most Associations have the same problem ?

Disappointing couple of days for TVCA.

Hills tend to have the majority of there best players playing each year. The key guys like the Reid's, Petty, Featherstone & Turnbull play each year. This year there would have only probably have been gonzalez, Tonkin and a few lofty boys that could have been in the team that didn't play.

I am certainly not that close to it anymore, but I thought there were some "interesting" selections in the A&EH squad named. I guess they can only pick those that make themselves available. I do wonder though if the selectors, look or think outside the square at times though......

IMO the best 11 for AEHCA would be:

Hassold
J Tait
Abbott
S Tait
Heinrich
Jenner
Collins wk
Warren
Ball
Collins
Hein (Mitch)

Stiff to miss out as they are quality players Pelle, Chapman, Matt Hein and Elsworthy.

Players who played on the weekend are in red. No disrespect to the blokes who did play btw who are all great cricketers in their own right. Jackson Lane is having a really solid year at Barker and Nate Fitzgerald is a quality young quick to name a couple.

I am not disrespecting anyone. You would have a pretty good idea of the better players in the A grade comp. Your initial list comprises a lot of shall we say "older guys" who have been there and done that. So it's no surprise they give the Meyer shield a miss, and leave it to the younger blokes.

I am sure you are a smart bloke and can work out what I am saying....

Didnt mean to insinuate that you were disrespecting people mate, sorry if you read it that way. It was more about me not disrespecting anyone who did play who in their own way definitely earned the right to play. Totally agree with why the older blokes dont play but it would be a damn good team if they all decided to play 1 year.

Of course they did, i was there watching it on that scorching morning. Was about 42C by 10.00am that day

Must have been thinking about the year before? 2016/17? Great Southern hammered Hills in the Final?

Yes that’s true JJ. I wasn’t limiting that call to just Meyer Shield though.
