Will paying players in cricket become the normal thing to do from now on?

With South winning the A1s this year will this set a precedence for years to come. Only really Angaston were competitive with the south team made up of two extremely handy recruits. Will clubs have to do the same to keep up.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with what south have done it was completely within the rules and well done to them as you still need to go out and perform , I’m just wondering if it changes the landscape of country cricket (especially in the BL). ??

On a side not well done to Robby McCard for winning the Mosey. No doubt that was money well spent from the Lions

No doubt its worth it, look at all the extra income coming in now from premiership merchandise, increase in membership, gate takings would be up too

FWIW I’ve heard it’s compulsory helmets for batsmen in every comp right across the country.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

First I have heard of it but looking on google it appears it may be true.

I haven't batted with a helmet since juniors expect for one game where it lasted about 3 balls, I literally couldn't see the ball wearing a helmet.

Surely there'll be some sort of waiver you can sign to get out of it. I know we will lose a bunch of older fellas who won't play now because of it. I'm sure there are many other clubs in the same boat, participation numbers will drop across the board

Totally agree. I simply can’t see the ball under a lid. Many would say I can’t see it anyway! If I’m forced to wear one, I would most likely just give the game away.

As a compulsive hooker/puller* I took to wearing a lid as I got into Section 1 cricket and then as I got older down through the ranks I kept it on.

Initially I didn't like it one bit, but I thought I needed it so stuck with it at training and eventually, and it didn't take long, I felt nude without it out there.

It's a matter of playing around with the fit, the positioning of the guard etc.

Karma made me have to wear one, and I wouldn't want to jeopardize my modelling career.

You are a better man than me Boon. I’ve tried numerous times to wear one, and I simply can’t see the ball. I don’t hook much anymore I just duck. That said in the last game of this summer I was facing a young bloke who had been dropped from the opposition ones who had a bit of toe about him. I admit thinking this bloke could badge me right here and now, he’s got my measure. So right there and then I wanted a helmet! But you look pretty stupid walking out in the baggy cap and calling for a lid after facing a few!

BLCA 2016-17

Postby bennymacca » Mon May 13, 2019 2:44 pm

Given I bat down the order I always looked to see whether any bowler could bowl a bouncer

If they could it was straight to the helmet and there's no way I'm good enough to keep it out if he bowls a really good one

I bat at 3, this bloke knocked the opener over in the 3rd over of the day, I wasn't really paying much attention to be honest. I only play second XI (and vets) nowdays so its rare that I will get someone with genuine heat that will have me jumping about. That said I will be 53 next season so I may have to swallow my pride and put on a lid. Actually its not pride, its shitful eyesight & slow reflexes.......

Does anyone know how the Willaston turf pitch is coming along?

My son and I might end up playing out there.

3 since 1983. a district club, all the rest at the same club minus 2 years (92 & 99) at a rival PDCA club.

I played one game the season before last but have just ferried my kids around on the weekends since.

I was lucky enough to fulfill a dream and play that one game with my son and daughter and got to bat with both, my lad has me easily covered with the willow now though.
