How do people see Reynella's move into Adelaide Turf going? Are they going to be strong enough or will they be looking to recruit players from other Turf clubs or will they try and tap into the Southern Districts system and get some of the older blokes on there way out from there?

Rumour is some old Reynella boys currently playing for or recently retired at Brighton may be considering a return to Oval Road.

I tell you what Reynella can have the recently retired Brighton player if he is a left handed bat as he only really plays for himself and was not really interested in being a good club man and getting to know anyone outside the A Grade.
If another player returning home is a recently dropped A Grade opening bowler this will not be that big a loss as he is slowly sliding past his best and would only maybe have one or two seasons of top level Turf left in him.

I used to play for Reynella and was 12th man in an A-grade premiership when I was 16. The recently retired left hander in question was in the team and made ducks in the semi and grand final. He then asked me on GF night, "What did you do to deserve that medal", to which I replied "Well I made as many runs as you in the finals and dropped less catches!"

Surprisingly, he didn't have anything else to add.

But having played for and against Reynella and in ATCA, I reckon they'll be about mid-range in A3. Lower grades will struggle.

I have heard that these guys are being admitted into A2, what will happen to clubs vying for promotion from A3?

i would presume they will need the use of another ground with a turf pitch as well??? where would that be?

How many sides are they entering?

Just having a quick look Reynella have 4 senior sides and and under 14's and under 16's. If they are going to enter all those sides they will need to organise another ground. A's and B's can share the main ground while c's and d's share the other ground. Underage sides play on the Sunday so that wouldn't be a problem.

Have been told 2 sides will play in ATCA and the other 2 will stay put, as for juniors ATCA has 15's & 17's and clubs field 11's (norhtern areas) 13's in different associations.

And reaches his ton!! (first time everthing)

You would think it would be smart to enter your Juniors in Turf if your better Senior sides will be playing in Turf.
To me it would appear if Reynella look like they could be making a slow transition out of SCA and into ATCA. I would imagine they will set up the Turf Wicket at Reynella Oval and use that for A and B Grade then look to make there C and D Grade ground turf in a season or two and then become a complete Turf Club

That sounds to me like the most sensible way of approaching it. Much better off with a gradual change. Hope it all works out for them.

Diddy - you'd know the Shuttleworth boys then?

Yep, Ian dropped me from B-grade when I was averaging 10 with the ball in 1998/99, beginning of the end of my career there. I'm over it now...almost! Of course he's gone onto bigger and better things. Went through primary school and junior footy with Brett, good lad.

The turf wicket went in at Reynella at about Xmas and will apparently be ready for the start of 07/08. Apparently they will try to get Woodcroft College as their second turf pitch eventually.

Since 1980 the following clubs have left or folded.
Willunga, Aldinga, McLaren Vale/Flat, Happy Valley, Christies Beach, Mawson, Hackham, and Seaford (different to current club). Despite the Noarlunga area growing 300-400% in that time the association has diminished big time. Personally the comp won't be the same without Reynella in it and I believe the SCA really have to look at a merger with the Great Southern Comp.
