Ahhh...okay...

Wasn't there long only one season when my brother played for them in 1983... so don't really remember anyone.

Our Under 11's coach is a female and has done a fantastic job in getting the team close to the finals. One more win and they're there. She also runs Auskick and boundary umpires for some older teams when asked.
She stepped in a few years ago when we were struggling for Under 8's and brought virtually a whole team to the club from a local primary school. Although she hasn't coach the same team right through the age groups, she has most of her 'original' Under 8 team in the 11's this year and deserves a medal for what she has done for little Rams since 2002.

As a coach at under 12 level, i was having a conversation with the head of umpires in my old league after our game earlier that morning.
It was incidentally, the first game a female A grade goal umpire had ever taken the central field umpire position in a game.
Not to be rude, she did a good job, but this lass is not by any means an "oil painting", nasty smokers teeth etc, you get the picture.
"So, how did she go?" the head of umpires asked me.
"She did well, really well," I told him.
"Tell me the truth mate, she was awful, wasn't she?"
"No, she actually did a pretty good job," I again reassured him.
"We're similar kinds of blokes mate, but tell me, would you root her?" he asked.
"Hell no mate," I said.
"You see mate, that's where you and I differ," he said.

The conversation ended on that note.
God help women in football.

One of the junior grades in the Port Lincoln Footy League had a female premiership coach...

There is a young girl maybe about 18 or 19 umpiring A grade in the Southern League the last few weeks and is as good as any umpire in the League. Although that wouldn't be hard as some are hopeless. She was a boundary ump last year and has taken the step up this year.

Just an update, our Under 11's coached by Tania have made the finals with a 10 goal win over their main threat in the last minor round match. She has the kids really keen to do well and, regardless of the semi-final result, deserves plenty of praise for getting the best out of them.

That would be Steph Morrison - I play footy with her at Morphettville Park. Great player as well as umpire.

Well,
the Under 11's didn't win their semi-final but they been terrific this season so well done to Tania and the 21 boys and 2 girls in the squad.
They are all keen to continue their improvement in 2009.
