worst ground in div 2 this year would have to be Pembroke. by a long way its a hazard, trees over hanging ground. pot holes every where and sprinkler holes. not good enough
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

just played at mitcham and they have pop up sprinklers heads sitting 1/2 inch up from the ground, (stood on it during the warm up lucky not to roll my ankle) spoke to their match day official b4 the start of the b/grade game and told him that this is pretty dangerous, the game shouldn't go ahead, he sort of laughed and said that was a bit extreme. imagine sliding on your knees flat out taking a mark and smashing your knee on it or getting slammed in a tackle and head butting it. this could cause some serious damge to a player and leaving the club liable. very dangerous take care if playing at mitcham(southern end centre corridor just inside 50)

Similar thing happened when we played PAOC at Park 9 a few years ago. However, they didn't start the game until someone got some sand to fill in the holes.

Not saying that the sprinklers should be there, but isnt the opposition club suppose to sign off some sort of form to say the oval is fine to play on? Which means the home club wouldnt be liable.

I played for the first ever Coober Pedy Football Club, and we used to train on a gravel oval, not a blade of grass in sight, we would train on the gravel and play internal trial matches on it (it was definately a good way to promote to players to keep their feet), very interesting that most football clubs would be ringing their local Council to mow the oval, we used to ring them to bring the grader out to grade the oval.

That is how most communities played in the far north, it was the things we had to do to play the game we love.

Our home ground in the initial stages was at Woomera (450 kms away) and our matches would go as far as Port Augusta (550 kms away) and then at Roxby Downs for other matches, so each week was an approx 1000 km round trip to play footy.

Great experience though.

not sure about that demon, but they did throw a bucketful of sand over the top of the sprinkler head. fat help that would do if you come sliding in

flatten out, except for some foot prints, but set like concrete, in fact 3 players come from the ground because they smashed their heads on the centre pitch area, 2 players did not return to the field. all walked off very groggy in the hands of the trainers

We were in 2 minds whether to actually sign off on the match day report form because of the centre square area. I know they have a turf wicket, but FFS, so do we and ours is fine. And someone had the stupidity to put the centre circle right in the middle of the hard patch, when it could have easily been moved to one side. You are right about there match day official, didnt seem to care much at all.

We may very well have to play a final there too.

reckless care of duty, hopefully no-one will seriously get hurt from either the pitch or sprinkler heads sticking out of the ground

Best ground by far is henley oval! Absolutely terrific to play on! worst ground is edwardstown especially on hotter days, reflection off the cycling track makes it feel like u are melting on the oval! the oval itself is good but for that reason its the worst...i hate it!

just noticed this thread for the first time...

My worst grounds to play on:

Bridgewater
Myponga
Brighton
Birdwood - the velodrome!

And best:
Morphettville Park (I know the ground itself is a shocker but the atmosphere is fantastic)
Noarlunga
Yankalilla
Woodville

Oh yeah and when I said Noarlunga I meant the Shoes' ground. The South Adelaide oval is dreadful.
