Port oval in Port Pirie, laser levelled, absolute cracker, but due to the SGL being anally retentive, no senior games are played there, needs a grandstand maybe and an upgrade is planned for the club/changerooms etc.

If it's up to standard why aren't games played there? Can you elaborate on the reason other than 'the SGL being anally retentive'?

Well they forced Quorn to play home games in Port Augusta which ultimately led to them folding due to lack of revenue....

Glenunga's a good surface to play on, so is Kenilworth and also Roseworthy oval, where we played our two trial games.

When it's dry! In the depths of winter it's good for a good ol' fashioned mud sliding contest, as demonstrated on my footy trip segment on Grass Roots last year

The surface has certainly got better, 5 years ago the grass could hardly grew on the Western or club side of the ground.

He might be in for a bit of a shock when we play Glenunga at home in round 10 then.

No footy played at Ashton anymore since Eastern Rangers merged with Uraidla but that was a crappy place to play; one pocket was almost a 'corner', there was a concrete inspection point at half forward, it was at the top of a hill so the ball always took ages to come back after a goal, and there was usually a thick fog which prevented the goal umpires from seeing each others flags waving!

Not that I have an issue with the oval but Two Wells is the same with the sun. Not sure why.
I wonder if their players get to 30 and realise they have a dissolved retina?

Because it runs more east/ west opposed to the traditional north/ south.

Gumeracha runs directly east/west and has one set of goals facing out into the main drag.

Just discovered this thread. I kinda remember reading a report from the SGFL when that little guy who did the sports news on GTS4 (Ken someone) was the league El Supremo that all games were to be played on Memorial Oval because Sollies ground (Globe Oval) wasn't up to scratch and Ports wasn't either, despite having a superb surface and swanky club/ restaurant supported by - SHOCK HORROR - pokies! The absence of a grandstand was always blamed but the SGL didn't want Ports to get rich and i strongly suspect that was at the centre of it I think. Then again I might have it wrong!

Used to play for Riverton/Saddleworth in the B & L league when Eudunda were in that comp. Whilst the oval wasn't too bad, Eudunda in the middle of winter just about has to be the coldest place in SA. The old stories about the flagon of port being bought out at 1/4 and 3/4 time is absolutely correct. Bitterly cold, got to 5 degrees (max) one day when I played U17's out there - wind, rain (but no snow surprisingly), just friggin" cold! To make matters worse, each end of the ground slopes down off the oval (the Northern end down to the main road to Morgan) and the southern end to the Golf Course, which meant that if you were boundary umpiring you'd be in for a long (and cold) day!!
