Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Only in America

Saw this graphic, and was amazed at the way people vote in the USA. Seems the poor want to stay poor. Although, the fact that voting isn't compulsory might also have something to do with it.

If anyone has problems with this link, I found the text wasn't readable on my screen in Firefox, but resized better in Opera.

It may be that in the US the poorer people are more conservative end the less poor are more liberal as they have been here and in the UK in the past..
My readings of the social history of the UK in the late 19th century suggests that the "lower" classes appeared to be both more conservative, and more conscious of social hierarchies among themselves, than the "upper" classes in that era.
The ALP was more conservative here, too, in its early years, for example, when it introduced the White Australia Policy.

Not sure where the link is to being a Republican voter and wanting to be poorer.

I admit I used a bad choice of words there. From what I have read, the lower classes are less likely to vote if voting isn't compulsory. The Republican Party is less likely to spend money on social needs such as health, education etc.

Interesting stats, TSG.

I haven't commented, because of my reluctance to state the obvious fact from the figures that the most intelligent voters vote Democrat ;)

Hard to compare as voting in the USA isn't compulsory.
