Privatising hospital carparks

Postby Gozu » Sun Apr 29, 2012 4:22 am

Appalling.

THE Government wants a $2 million annual payment from carparks it plans to privatise at major hospitals.

A leaked Cabinet document, obtained by the State Opposition, details the Government's proposed plans to sell long-term leases to its public hospital carparks - for an "upfront payment" of $90 million - and to negotiate an "annual revenue stream" of $2 million".

"The stream is essentially an access/service fee whereby the purchaser of each carpark will continue to pay an amount to Health for ongoing access to SA Health's carparking customer base," says the September 21 Cabinet submission signed by Health Minister John Hill. "The ongoing revenue associated with access to SA Health's carparking customer base is estimated at $2 million from 2013-14.

How do these things get "leaked" to the Opposition?

I'm presuming its by a Govt member who doesn't agree with it.

You'd think so or a staffer or something.

When I first read it I thought maybe it's been intentionally leaked to the Opposition/media in the hope they go hard on it and then for the government to turn around and either lessen the original plans or scrap it all together, "See we're really good guys and do listen to the public".

Funny - I'm sure I heard Snelling tell the ABC it wasn't on the table.
He really is showing his incompetence, or maybe we should just put him into the "pants on fire" category

Not being enough to charge people to park in formerly free car parks, the intent now is to sell off more public infrastructure? This ALP Government are more Right Wing than any LIberal Government we have ever had in this state....
