and she's moved even further to the Right on "border protection" and has said that not only will she go ahead with welfare quarantining for people in the NT but also intends to expand it nationwide. I mean seriously what was the bloody point.

Hmmmm, so my two choices at the next election are:

A) Ultra-conservative, or

B) Ultra-conservative

Yes Gozu, what is the damn point of voting anymore?!

Gillard's turning out to be a deformed out-growth of Thatcher.

I hate Tony Abbott with a passion but if it's a choice between ultra conservative with an Internet filter and ultra conservative without a filter it will be an easy choice.
Egads, just the thought of ultra conservative communism scares me!

One is pretending to be ultra conservative, if she had said that belief in God was a private matter, she wouldn't have to go with the filter as a sop to the God botherers. Gillard is smart she's upsetting the latte sippers, but bolstering support with the grass roots red necks that vote Labor. She knows the latte sippers have no where else to go under a preferential voting system

Actually rednecks tend to vote Liberal hence why she's doing this and I'll assume I'm one of your "latte sippers" Mick (keep in mind Mick thinks the Nazi's were left-wing because they had the word socialist in their name). Given how right-wing both parties are I'll be voting Greens and perferencing the Libs ahead of Labor. You expect all this kind of stuff out of the Libs but Labor deserve a kick up the ass fro going down this route.

Keep digging, Hitler and the Nazi's hated communists almost as much as they hated Jews. You'd be hard pressed to find too many people that consider the Democratic People's Republic Of China a democracy too.

Hopefully there is a reasonable independant running in the seat of Adelaide or I am going to struggle where I put my Number 1 , let alone working out my preferencing for Lib or Lab.

Internet filter, like to see how much money they will throw at it to achieve nothing.

After the last few days of promoting who can club an asylum seeker the best, I've lost my faith in both L parties.

Many tradiitional ALP voters, with low paid jobs living in Western Sydney or Melbourne believe that "charity begins at home", they care little about asylum seekers and the "pressing issues" so beloved by the comfortable middle class ALP voter, hence the apparent lurch to the right. Gozu, Do you really think this is genuine? I don't, it's simply a ploy to win the next election. Now if you really had balls you'd give your first preference protest vote to the Liberals rather than passing to them through the crazy party.

How much do Liberal voters care about asylum seekers, Mick? Of course it's not genuine it's about trying to steal redneck voters from the Libs in marginal seats in QLD & NSW.

Probably no more than the people I described, the "liberal voters" you are talking about probably voted ALP in 2007. We are at least agreed its a ploy to win the next election....why the hand wringing? Just vote ALP... simple isn't it why piss about voting green?

Because the Greens aren't right-wing. I'm not voting for the ALP if they want to be a mirror image of the odious Liberal party.

Fair dinkum there's some exaggerated talk on these asylum policies from some of you blokes.
Gillard moves to the centre in the hope of coming up with a half sane and workable policy and she's instantly an ultra conservative or a clone of her opponent ???
Anyone with any grip on the reality of the problem would be crazy to just let it all flow with no considerations to our normal requirements of visa screening and security checks let alone the nature/motivation of the whole process
Rudd had a hopeless grip on the situation, that was better for Australia?
It might all unravel for her still if the East Timorese say no but at least she is preparerd to face up to the situation, not hide behind moral smugness amd hopeless public policy outcomes.
