We'd need to know the source and the political orientation of those doing the study, their method of assessing the raw data, and see the raw data itself, because that doesn't really gel with experience and memory. I can't forget the Whitlam debt and plans for borrowing, Keating's "stagflation" era, SA and Vic ALP in the 1980s wrecking their state banks and state superannuation funds to prop up spending and "development" while waiting for the J-curve PK promised them....redandblack wrote:UNfortunately for you that's not the case.
I'll find a recent study which showed Labor have been much better managers of the economy than the Coalition.
You're falling for the usual disease of believing something without evidence if you say it over and over again.

I tend to agree with abolishing state governments.Sojourner wrote:Pity they couldn't just shut down State Governments and let us have Super Councils and the Federal Government, would save 70bil and then some.
State Governments are an anachronism that no longer have any purpose, national heath, education, policing is all the way forward. would substantially raise the standard of living for all Aussies if it were done away with!

If Labor being more frugal than the Libs is considered "better" then read that article by George Megalogenis.
IMO, Labor should always spend more on the people than the Liberals.
Private sector economists have been generally complimentary of the Treasurer's budget. Bill Evans, the chief economist at Westpac, says the budget will create the sharpest two-year drag on the economy since 1970, because it will be detracting from growth. But he says the toughness is relative -- it looks better on paper for Labor because the belt-tightening comes after the stimulus for the global financial crisis.
