QLD Election

I know its late as it was yesterday that we voted but -

Labor looks to only have 8 seats at the end off all this. In Queensland, if you or a party doesnt have more then 10 seats in parliment, then that party is not reckonised as a party in itself!

What does this have in for the future of the labor party in the great state of Queensland for us

Katter has state on radio this morning that his party would be the better and bigger opposition against thr LNP here.

On the LNP, 78 seats won. Massive swing against labor. They actually ran out of how to vote cards at some polling booths here in the SE QLD for the LNP cards
Rumours up here is that most of the reason is due to the KRudd saga. We all of us voted KRudd in in 07, yet the labor party voted Julia gillard in !!. If Anna has anyone to blame, then she can contact Julia Gillard and the federal labor party in canberra.

people are forgetting what campbell did as lord mayor during the floods up here also!

The question i ask is, yes Anna did alot during the floods, but was she not ment to, or did she do it off her own back?? I had a mate that lost everything in his business and is now bankrupt and out of work, but Any premier or PM would have done that same if they were in Annas position.

Yes she did great things, but all pollys in her place would have done the same. ...

The people in the seat of Sth Brisbane voted her back in, and now shes leaving!!!!

She should have not run.....shame on her, Another by election up here now, and she is asking the LNP to allow it to be on the council voting day on 28th of april so it doesnt cost as much.

And yes, for people whom dont know, voting in council elections is COMPULSORY up here in QLD. Maybe the Adelaide city council and councils in the state should do the same....to change the way things are run down there!

It's true that natural disasters are a massive problem to deal with and are fairly unpredictable.
But... they didn't get the state insured (to be fair might have been impossible) and then failed to set up a disaster fund which would have been the sensible thing to do in Qld.
Instead disaster strikes and whole country is forced to pay for what should have been planned for by the Qld govt.

She tried to exploit her leadership during state distasters for the election.
She also shamelessly played a massive smear campaign against Campbell Newman about his time as Lord Mayor.
A lot of people had already had a gutful of Labor and Anna before the election and saw right through everything.
Hence the result yesterday.

The last week of campaigning was absurd. Conceding defeat and begging voters not to give LNP too much power...WTF?

Thats my point also, she and the labor party ran a campaign on attacking campbell and bringing his family into it. Tha was shameful on her and the people whom thought of this.

No one brings the oppositons family into politics, as its not the humane or right thing to do. i say good ridance to her, she deserves this after she did that amoungst other things in QLD.

still cant get over the fact that they ran out of how to vote cards for LNP candidates at some polling booths . The seat of a few LNp members on the gold coast i heard had 90% of the vote at the end of the tally! Massive loss for the labor party. They wont be back for many years to come.

Andrew fraser the now former treasurer lost his seat (sucked into him as he was a big backer of the campaign on campbell and his family) he was suppose to lead the labor party into the future. Also cameron Dick in Mt gravatt, he was seen as a future leader of the labor party, he is gone. Alot of sole searching for labor here in QLD

they focused on attacking campbell newman and his wife over so called dealings with projects whilst campbell was mayor, he was cleared of this of any wrong doing in the last week before the election day, and labor had nothing else to fall back on. Its there own fault. They were long gone bfore the election was announced but this inflamed it more

Well she can thank her Canberra friends (Gillard/Rudd and co) for the result too.

Nice to see Gillard come out and make a comment about the election result as she has refused to make any comment and flown straight to Maylasia.

No point in blaming Anna Bligh, Queenslanders have a history of swinging wildly against the government when they want change.

As I stated in the other thread, this result does not serve democracy well. Remember that QLD does not have an upper house, so the LNP have an absoute free run for at least 2 terms without little accountability. There will be massive unrest within the LNP backbench as they feast on the spoils of victory. For the Labor opposition, their numbers are so small they cannot possibly be taken seriously as an alternative government.

The only good to come out of all this is that the Mad Katter party only won 2 seats.

Bligh went into the previous election and made various promises, won then began selling of Qld Rail and other infrastructure despiste promising not to do it. I think that alone cost them the election, the personal attacks which backfired on Campbell Newman likely led to the slaughter being much higher.

Gillard and co might want to look closely at how people respond to politicans that tell lies to the people then try and wordsmith it away with silver tounges.

Rumour has it that Qld'ers are not happy with the way Rudd is being treated out of Melbourne by the ALP Caucus. People may not be aware that the Federal Government can easilly be lost just by a local swing against them in Qld because of the number of seats there.

The only hope for the ALP is to openly apologise to the people over the way the government has been handled in the hung parliament and for the various lies that have been told along the way. They need a new leader and a snap poll on the back of some good announcements. This will at least stem thier losses, if they dont and go to an election in their current form they will be cleaned out as they were in NSW and now Qld. Its better to lose by a smaller margin and have a shot next time around than to be decimated and to be looking at three election cycles to be back in the hunt.

But for Anna bligh to bring out these ads in the last week which was seen and heard on the radios - We know, the labor party and I can see the voters want change, but please dont give the LNP too much power on the 24th of march.

So if she knew this, then why did she run for her seat of South Brisbane?? She has quit politics, and now the seat of south brisbane has to have a by election , i fell sorry for the labor candidate for that seat now, they/he/she will get nothing thanks to her. They voted her back in in the seat of south brisbane, and now she has walked away from them!!!
