Abbott's Gone!

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

laughable you say...i agree. Yes Bob brown is laughing all the way to the bank...if you understand what i mean. Hes a piece of work more so then the rest of them. My point is IF he swicthed or whatever then it would ruin us IF he becomes PM.

But you cant tell me that you cant see that he wants to take over from Julia?? If you cant then the wool is pulled over your eyes

Bully, you would have to have a flock of sheep pulled over your eyes to believe Bob Brown could become Prime Minister in your scenario.

He would have to resign from the Senate, resign from The Greens, join the ALP, persuade a Labor MP to also resign, persuade the Government to risk a by-election and government, then persuade the majority of Labor MP’s to vote out Julia Gillard and replace her with him!

Somehow I don’t think this is going to happen.

I know your argument that he’ll become PM and laugh all the way to the bank is persuasive, but I’ll stick with my opinion, given the above.

I made a comment (I think it was on this thread) a week or so ago, and we all need to take it in...

There is a possibility (only a possibility) that in years to come, a third political party may become a power.

Not at the expense of one of the big two, but as well as. This would be fantastic, and truly change the political landscape.

But realistically (and for the discussion), I am 23, and will see nothing other than a Liberal or Labor Prime Minister in my life time.

It will take that long for a party (most likely the Greens at this point) to become strong enough.

Ok the problem is that at the moment while there are people looking for that 3rd or 4th option, there will always be the typical libral and labour voters. I guess your probably waiting for most of them to move on I guess, which I would say would be the only way the greens for example would become big enough for this.
The problem with the Greens is that there is no middle ground, your just not going to get enough support for them.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Since when did the Greens have a mortgage on BS and spin? Fight fire with fire I say. Besides I love getting up their noses. Anyway my figures are close to right.

Your 55% figure is nonsense.

What evidence do you have for that figure?

You've had plenty of opportunity to answer that question.

"My figures are close to right" doesn't cut it.

Well, I've just watched the announcement and press conferences.

One thing is clear. Mr Abbott is totally out of his depth.

Stuggled! The ol 'Wel have to wait and see closer to the election' line about the cost of his plan is not gonna wash now.

And will be interesting if he opposes the assistance to Steel and other industrys considering he said they would oppose ALL of the package.

Labor's long game is about to pay off. Wont happen overnight but it will happen.

I'll be very happy to keep up a running commentary on his response, SP, stay tuned :D

I watched it, did you?

Presuming you didn't, I'll post other's opinions as they appear.

Tony's problem is that he said it would be the end of the world, but it turns out that most people will be better off. The look on his face and on Joe Hockey's said it all.

Fair enough. No I didn't watch it because I am working flat strap but I did see about 15 minutes of the PMs address earlier while I was having a capuccino and a biscuit. The bottom line is it (the carbon tax) will make no difference to climate change but it will make people feel better about it. Here's one comment I have had emailed to me in the last hour
The design of the tax is a quagmire of complexity and you cannot trust this Government to get it right. It is a massive and permanent increase in the size of government, and includes a $10 billion Gillard Bank to finance high risk, speculative projects.
In the first four years alone, $382 million will be spent to manage this massive money-go-round.

IMHO I see more pink bats, failed school halls and dodgy decision-making with the live cattle industry just waiting to happen.
