You'd have to agree it's a pretty interesting choice of words on his part though...

As I said about a shearer I didn't hire again...
He saw being asked to use stud combs to help prevent cuts as insulting even when I offered to pay for the extra time it might take and provided the combs.
He also got stroppy when I stitched up one 50mm long wound - his pride in his speed was more important than the animals.

i dont think it is an interesting choice of words. i have close friends that are sheep farmers, and guess what, sheep die, all the time, for seemingly no reason. every time i go visit, and we do a tour of the paddocks, we find dead sheep. not through mistreatment, but through natural causes. they just die.

to just state that 260 sheep died on board the ship, of course that sounds terrible. but as has been pointed out, it is an extreemely small percentage of the overall numbers. i dont think the number of sheep deaths onboard the ship is a dramatic increase over the natural death rates in a flock (although, as usual i am happy to be corrected) i think his choice of words indicates, admittedly probably in a poor way, that the death rate on the ship compares favourably to the death rate out in the sheeps "natural" environment, ie the paddock

By next season I was breeding Alpaca too and the Alpaca set had found shearers who were prepared to be careful.
I used them on my first year's crop of embryo transplanted Texan Angoras who were due for their first shearing..

Interesting to see Anthony Albanese mocking the protesters from parliament house. Considering the way the ALP stand at the moment, replaying that as a Liberal party electoral advertisement for an upcoming election will likely do them some significant damage considering that the Libs will use it in the worst possible light, sometimes it pays as a politician to pull your head in and shut your mouth, not to throw fuel on the fire of an emotive debate.

Unfortunately the Convoy of No Confidence is presenting an unconstitutional petition about a non-existent problem based on a total misunderstanding of Australian election procedures and outcomes.

Interesting R&B so you would have to agree that Mr Thomsons actions are unconstitutional ? There should be an investigation into all of his workings? Have a look into your side of things now when you answer i just want to hear your thoughts on some of the things that have come out about this man?

This suggests he may have helped himself: http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/lat ... homson-pm/
Prime Minister Julia Gillard says her chief-of-staff was merely "checking facts" when he phoned an industrial watchdog over the Thomson affair.
A report in News Ltd newspapers on Friday said Ms Gillard's chief-of-staff Ben Hubbard rang the Industrial Registrar to ask whether he was investigating Craig Thomson over the misuse of credit cards during his time as head of the Health Services Union.

It's been alleged that two union credit cards in Mr Thomson's name were used for escort services, lavish dinners and accessing more than $100,000 from ATMs.
The now Labor MP for the NSW seat of Dobell has denied any wrongdoing.

Ms Gillard said there was nothing suspicious about the phone call.

I am inclined to agree with Julia's statement that ringing to check the facts would be a routine thing to do, and to assume for now that that is what it was.

Sheep to be exported from Port Adelaide

ANIMAL welfare activists are gathering at Port Adelaide as work begins to reload 67,000 sheep onto a carrier ship bound for the Middle East. The sheep - held at feedlots at Dublin after being stranded on board the Al Messilah last month - will be loaded onto another export ship at Port Adelaide from tomorrow afternoon.

Animals Australia executive director Glenys Oogjes said the appropriate action would have been to process the sheep in Australia.

"Instead, these poor animals will once again be subjected to the stress of cramped shipboard transportation and the hazards of the open ocean," she said.

"The exporter is fully aware that hundreds will succumb and die before they reach their destination, yet has still ordered their reloading."

The RSPCA said the decision to reload the sheep showed a callous disregard for their welfare.
