Parallel Universe

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

So what do you propose should've happened WCP? We all line up and tick a box again? What if it's the same result? We do it again?

Not having a go, just genuinely interested.

No, I'm happy with how they got into Govt, it just irks me (to put it politely) when she (and others) says she was elected by the people. Hondo's response to my next question confirms to me at least, that 'technically' she may have been, but in reality not so.
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

That wasn't my intention. I should have added, "but he didn't win the support of the independents so he couldn't form a government". Why was that? It was because the independents that Australia voted for were more aligned to Labor policies than Liberal ones and we handed the balance of power in the Senate to the Greens. Abbott simply couldn't convince the independents in the Lower House that he could form a stable Liberal Government under those circumstances.

So for your hypothetical to have become a reality the vote would have had to happen differently to how it did (eg, some right wing party was handed the balance of power in the senate). So that says what we now have reflects the way the majority (albiet a small majority) voted on the day.

I emphasise again, on preferences the majority of voters voted Labor.
In between signatures .....

I re-ran it as some of my views have changed over the last 18 months.
Looking at the various scores posted here there is not a right winger among us - assuming Jimmy's second is the fake.
We seem to be all lefties by the values of this site which I think is UK based - you would expect that if it were from the US.

The reality is that citizens elect members of parliament and those members then decide who is PM. As it's always been.

The Herald Sun‘s cartoonist thinks a trite, asinine and childish observation a year old is suddenly newsworthy if you draw a picture of the recent horse race under it:

Remember, readers? Remember how the parliament is RULED by the three independents and the one Green, outvoting the other 146 members of parliament with their special super seats? It’s undemocratic! It’s a cheat! A swindle! You’ve been robbed of your votes! You didn’t choose your Government, it was appointed by the people we’re constantly telling you to hate!

Don’t let it not being true bother you. It just feels right.

Hell, it’s so obvious Knight doesn’t even need the pig to explain the joke to you this time.

It is interesting to look back at the debates here in which people are referred to as lefties and others as right wing extremists, when according to this nearly all of us are coming out fairly left of true centre by the standards of this International site - UK based. We are obviously all just part of a divided left world faction fighting among ourselves.. ;)

I seem to be slightly left of our Greens on the chart.
I suspect there is a difference of which issues I am "Left" about compared with them.
The chart is an average position, and we are likely to be all different over which issues in life we have "left" or "right" attitudes about.

Hardly surprising, both major political parties are left leaning by world standards.

Not as far left as some European countries, but further left than any major political party in North America.

Always gives me a chuckle when I hear a Greens supporter praising Barrack Obama, considering he is further to the right than Tony Abbott.
