The Economist backs Labor:

"The choice between a man with a defective manifesto and one with a defective personality is not appealing—but Mr Rudd gets our vote, largely because of Labor’s decent record.”

It's almost hard to believe the Libs aren't getting hammered in the press for their costings shenanigans. Almost.

That they won't be fully released until the eleventh hour.

Probably has something to do with the form of the ALP in not releasing their own costings until the eve of the election on the last two elections to avoid scrutiny?

Congrats to the sheep who believe Abbott and Murdoch's propaganda that the government have destroyed the country.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Well that is standard practice. Both sides do it, and both bleat like stuck pigs, but it is how the system works and I can't see it ever being changed. It should be of course but these people do what they want, not what we would like them to do.

Reasonable article Barto, but anyone involved in the economy knows how tough it is out there at the moment despite us being told how lucky we are and how good we've got it.

The employment figures have been calculated in that manner for a long time.

http://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2013/08/the-government-hasnt-hidden-unemployment/

The idea that some modified rules in the benefit system amount to manipulation of the unemployment rate is a “ridiculous proposition”, as Bob Gregory put it. It’s a shame the ABC so uncritically accepted this point of view, and that it has been reiterated elsewhere.

The boring truth is that the unemployment rate is an imperfect, but very useful measure of an important, widely accepted aspect of the labour market. I am quite sure that there has been no conspiracy to manipulate the unemployment rate in Australia.

The unemployed are still out there though and I recall hearing it was changed around 2009 and we would be around 2% more now (Going from memory)

This just about sums up Labor

It's always "tough" for the non-wealthy, no matter what point in history we look at it.

I cant recall a time where the average person didn't struggle a bit, unless they have amazing self control and never buy any non essentials. I'm in my forties, perhaps there's someone older here who can remember this time of abundance for the low-middle classes?
