(Miscellaneous debris)

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

I only just heard about this but former Greens leader Bob Brown has replaced Paul Watson as the new head of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society:

FORMER Greens leader Bob Brown is to take over as a leader of the militant anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd after its fugitive founder Paul Watson stepped down.

Mr Watson, a Canadian, is wanted by Interpol after skipping bail last July in Germany, where he was arrested on Costa Rican charges relating to a high-seas confrontation over shark finning in 2002.

Due to a raft of legal issues he has stepped down as president of the group in the US and Australia, and as captain of flagship anti-hunt vessel the “Steve Irwin”, although he will remain with the fleet during this year's campaign.

Mr Watson's whereabouts had been a mystery until December, when he confirmed he was back on board a Sea Shepherd vessel and ready for the group's annual Southern Ocean expedition against the Japanese whaling fleet.

Sea Shepherd said he would take a back seat in the chase, with Mr Brown - the founder and long-time leader of the Greens - to direct operations.

Fiscal responsiblity ??

AUSTRALIA'S most needlessly wasteful spending took place under the John Howard-led Coalition government rather than under the Whitlam, Rudd or Gillard Labor governments, an international study has found.

The International Monetary Fund examined 200 years of government financial records across 55 leading economies.

It identifies only two periods of Australian "fiscal profligacy" in recent years, both during John Howard's term in office - in 2003 at the start of the mining boom and during his final years in office between 2005 and 2007.

The IMF - now there's an organisation we all should admire.
Nothing more than an agency to spread US influence by getting countries on the debt cycle
So Howard and Costello must have pi$$ed the yanks off twice in their tenure.

It is interesting that governments lead by Australia's two greatest PMs Curtin and Howard are judged profligate in this article. This has about the same level of credibility as European Finance minsters judging Swan as the world's greatest treasurer. Good to see Wayne has friends in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ireland and Spain.

Also a little thing called World War Two may have curtailed Curtin's finances a little.

From Greens MP Mark Parnell,

"101 years ago, this was Adelaide’s tram & train network. Adelaide ended at Mitcham in the South and Prospect in the North, but already the tram lines were spreading out. BTW – the cyclist in the photo is wearing a Pork Pie hat (or is it a Fedora or Trilby?) rather than a helmet, & will come a cropper if he doesn’t steer clear of the tram line."

I was the leaker of the documents related to the investigation into the expletive-laden video: Kevin Rudd

KEVIN RUDD has revealed he leaked hundreds of pages of documents relating to his complaints over the federal police investigation Operation Mesco into who leaked his expletive-laden video.

In a bizarre development, Mr Rudd has confirmed he lodged a freedom of information request into his own correspondence with the Federal Police, before leaking hundreds of pages of correspondence relating to 'Operation Mesco'' this week to the media.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Yes, but the money spent on roads was not until the final year of their term and the water buy backs were only announced as a policy, not actually delivered during the Howard term.
