I'll make the prediction now for March - hung parliament.

Which side will form Govt I've no idea. 23-22 major parties with Such and Brock (memebr for Frome) holding the balance of power.

Yep. Going to be close. Lib polling has them worried about their leaders seat. I reckon he is safe. Expect a series of good news announcements in the next 6 weeks from Labor.

its an interesting one, because typically so close after a change in government federally, you would think it would be almost certain for a change of government in SA too, but i think the SA liberals still struggle to raise their profile. And federal liberals havent exactly been setting the world on fire either.

definitely going to be close

And the independents have already shown their hand ... put some coin on Bob Such for speaker.

The announcement today of the 'black hole' due to the closure of Holden, reduction in GST receipts etc. should make this election a shoe-in for the Libs though.

Election is due in about 8 weeks, yes? Wonder if Marshall can hold onto the leadership role until then.....

He'll be fine.
Haven't heard a hint of a rumble. If he somehow loses this election, well...

it is definitely not good.

the problem with the state liberals is that they still cant seem to achieve any sort of decent profile in the media - you actually have to stop and think, now who is the opposition leader again? marshall seems to be doing a better job than redmond did but still..

tony's lacklustre performance will hurt them too, whether it is enough to stop them forming government, i doubt it.

Classic

The budget blows out by $1b, the public sector is still growing, yet Captain Economics says:

Mr Weatherill said release of the update left Opposition Leader Steven Marshall "nowhere to hide" and challenged his rival to unveil his plans for the public sector. Mr Weatherill said he had been "completely upfront" about the Government's plans for the public sector and it was now time for Mr Marshall to do the same. "South Australians still do not know which services and how many jobs he is planning to cut," Mr Weatherill said.
"We are still waiting for Steven Marshall's public sector policy because he knows that his plans are unpopular - Liberals cut, it's in their DNA.

I think Weatherill has actually completely lost the plot
All he cares about is the Public Service and we all have to pay for it

Add this one to the record: http://indaily.com.au/news/2014/01/23/p ... volvement/
Premier Jay Weatherill says it’s “absolutely appropriate” for him to have dealt personally with the developer involved in a controversial land deal at Gillman. InDaily revealed yesterday the developer, Adelaide Capital Partners, had approached the Premier personally last year about its plan to buy 400 hectares of government land at Gillman.

The sale did not go to tender. Shortly after the sale was made almost half of Renewal SA’s board resigned over concerns about the deal, InDaily understands.

I was listening to M & W discussing the budgetary situation on 891 yesterday morning - it was riveting.
Weatherill maintains his sturdy demeanour, meaning Marshall has to hold similar. You can tell Marshall really wants to let rip but can't, as it will look like he's being over bearing.
It was classic radio.

I love this mob:

Government to restore $900k funding for international student support group
ABC January 24, 2014, 7:41 am

The South Australian Government is promising to restore some of the money it planned to cut to an organisation which attracts international students to Adelaide and provides support programs.
The Government had intended to cut Education Adelaide's funding by $1.6 million a year, saying the three main universities do much of the necessary work.
It now says it will give the organisation $900,000 annually from 2015 if it is wins the March election.
The State Opposition has promised to lift Education Adelaide's funding to $2 million annually if it is elected.
Higher Education Minister Grace Portolesi says the Government's decision is based on a review and is not a response to the Opposition's promise.
"The strong advice identified in that report is that this is the amount that is needed for destination marketing and that should be the focus of Education Adelaide," she said.
Ms Portolesi says the organisation will still have to reduce its functions.
"It'll have a much sharper focus. We had lots of feedback from the three universities for instance who were very supportive of a much sharper focus on destination marketing," she said.
"However, they were very clear about the fact that Education Adelaide should not involve duplication of work, for instance, already being undertaken by them or other government agencies."

So, in other words, they cut the funding before we did the review (that makes a lot of sense) but then reinstated it when the review showed them to be incompetent. But it had nothing to do with the Liberals saying they would continue it.

That's the problem at the moment, labor are losing to themselves, both federally and at a state level. And we can see how well that turned out federally :(
