Are the SA Government in trouble?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

All state governments seem to be falling into that catagory, no matter their political persuision. They don't want to commit to expensive infrastructure that will require borrowing money to undertake as they are scared of the fall out from the opposition for allowing the debt to be incurred. Liberal and Labor are as bad as each other when it comes to using roads, public transport, hospitals etc. etc. as political pawns instead of just biting the bullet and giving us the infrastructutre to see us into the future, The only exceptions are states that use private funding, tolls etc. to build the infrastructure.
Anyone who thinks the Lib's (or anyone else) would do anything majorly different is either kiding themselves or has their head buried in the sand.

Dont we have a massive new hospital on the way?Expressway from outer harbour to Gawler by-pass on the way(dual carriageway I might add not like some others built by previous governments)?a couple of undepasses ? I work in a new 3 level wing at the QEH? In the bag defence industry work? Extentions to Flinders hospital underway? They tried to improve the east parklands with a proposal but no-one wanted it? I am quite glad about these things going on the the state even if It may not be as sexy as friggin pandas or indoor sports mega stadiums sitting there doing nothing.

The only people who bag the Southern expressway are the people who do not use it. It was built for 1 reason and that was to accomodate for the majority of traffic at a given time of day and guess what......it works. Its great getting to marion in 10 mins from morphett vale and it was designed so when the state could afford and it needed it that it could go both ways. The hospital came totally out of right field and took no ones consideration from the public. Don't be surprised if the construction goes ahead prior to the next election so we have no choice......The tram line is a complete joke and with all the stagnant cars now in the city from it adds to pollution (Increases global warming) and not to mention is a complete waste of money (Once again did not give a shit on what the public thought). Not to mention his success of shutting down bike clubs (Name 1 that has been shut down??). Wait a minute now he did make peter beattie drink a coopers pale ale........ What a knob

That hospital will be a disaster, apparently Mediocre M has signed contracts that have hefty penalties, if there is a decision not to go with that heavily polluted site. A project like a new $2billion hospital should never have been contemplated without years of planning. Labor always buggers up the States economy, I don't see why this one should be any different from Dunstan and Bannon. I agree the the Southern Expressway is a joke, however it was all the state could afford after the magnificent economic stewardship of Bannon and the ALP.

Surely the state is still flush with cash (and ideas) after those heady years of Dean "can do" Brown and John "got get 'em" Olsen. I had to leave. I couldn't stand the excitement.

John Olsen poured me the last beer I had in SA before I moved to Melbourne. He was acting as barman at a barbecue in Kavel. Since Dean Brown's come back potential was again in the papers at the time I couldn't resist asking him if he was brushing up skills for his next job. I think he is Consul-General in New York or something similar now, so I guess his bar skills are not an issue.

You have you're opinion and i have mine. For too long the minority of Adelaide has held it back and now a government has come forward with a 'revolution' if you will that has the best of both worlds. Also interesting more facts come out about the stadium now that it would not cost anywhere near the estimated amount that the Rann government said it would cost. According to a recent poll pretty much 80% of adelaide wants it this way. I honestly just cant stand the way the rann government does what ever when ever with no structure or future. They are just puting out spot fires and not looking at the overall picture. What is building a new hospital with the same amount of beds as the current 1 going to acheive?? I wouldnt care if they rebuilt the RAH on the current site and then spent the rest on extra beds at the Modbury,Noarlunga and Queen Elizabeth hospitals and said we will review the Stadium in a few years...... He is kidding no one when they reckon de-contaminating a huge area, shutting down the train system temporarily and building a new hospital is cheaper than rebuilding and making more beds. By spending this money at least we will have something to show for it.

It would have cost about 50% more to build it in both directions, and now we are still paying for the on going cost of monitering and maintaining the traffic direction lights/systems etc.
