To me, the Liberals were making seriously inroads into exposing the Rann Govt for what they really are, and putting forward an alternative government
MHS was a Leader and it appeared that they were a cohesive force
One e-mail; regardless of who sent it, it was bad judgement
Is it going to take the novelty of a female leader to get them back to where they were?

I mean this factional war has been simmering along in the background for 30 yrs and just when we need a credible opposition to put some heat on the government, the liberals go and shoot themselves in the foot. I mean what happens on Wednesday if Chapman defeats Redmond by 1 vote, where do they go from there?
As someone who has met Mitch Williams and knows him personally,I find he is just too decent a fellow to get wrapped up in the argy bargy dog eat dog of day to day politics let alone worrying about who is going to knife him in the back.
re dodgy documents fiasco; could it be that a factional opponent with an axe to grind from within the party "set up" MHS.?
Lets hope there is a solid resolution on Wednesday and that the liberal opposition can step back up to the plate and give Rann, Foley and Co a few smacks around the ears because by hell they need it. :? :?

Agree with all that

I haven't taken much notice of Isobel Redmond

I read today the poodle supports Chapman - one wonders what he has got to do with all this

J, a couple of other Liberal establishment names I didn't mention ... Wilson and Goldsworthy.

Just try to remember who the sitting member was that Poodle outsted in preselection before he won that seat to get into Parliament ...

I will never understand why (for both Labor and Liberal), it's more important to settle internal scores than to battle with the real opponent.

Ian Wilson - I handed out How to Vote cards for him at that election when he ran as an Independant I was at a party where he was. He was holding stage and sprouting off. I said to him that I would never vote him, and I never have

Its called politics I'm glad they seem to think it is useful. A friendly MP said to me that it takes a special type of person to enter politics. One that wants to engage in public service. I called bull$hit

I wonder if MHS thought that disappearing as leader might mean that the defamation action against him would be dropped?

I can't see it getting up in Court anyway - defamation is apparently one of the hardest cases to prove. In all honesty, MHS apologised 4 or 5 times and after doing that, they say "Thanks MHS - that was cake, now we want to eat you too".

I'm surprised the Govt hasn't all taken leave the past fortnight - I mean, there has been no talk in the media about any issues other than the Libs and their leadership for about three weeks now.

The tram is off the rails, hospital admissions vs capacity are out of control, (there has been some serious issues in the health portfolio in the last 3 months), the govt caps the salaries of public servants to 2.5% yr while giving firefighters 5% yr through the back door and offering teachers almost that; the court action against bikies has stalled and despite getting an extra 700 coppers SAPOL can only put one patrol car on the streets of the Adelaide LSA at night; Gago is missing in action re Burnside Council and J-Lo must be in gay Paris for Le Tour with Le Lance atm as she has been a missing person for over a year now; Public Sector redundancies have been announced whilst political appointments to staff Ministerial Offices grow and grow; Shared Services savings cannot be found; Children under the Guardianship of the Minister still stay overnight in hotels and there aren't enough foster parents because they are paid next to nothing to do the job; Magill Juvi has been described in appalling terms by Monsignor Cappo and the Guardian for Children Pam Simmons; Street Hoons cant be caught outside a major Police Station (apparently) and the road toll is double what it should be despite the investment in roads in some places and the much vaunted reduction in the metro speed limit to 50kph. There's a huge list to work with, before we even talk about the budget.

Need I go on?

Little-known Liberal backbencher Isobel Redmond has taken the leadership of the party ahead of Vickie Chapman.

Redmond won the leadership ballot 13-9 in what political observers described as an easy victory.

Her deputy will be finance spokesman Steve Griffiths, who beat Mitch Williams 8 votes to 6.

Come on Psyber even you can't defend a result like that. While the factions will keep going at each other's throats she's gone after next year's election anyway.

59% of the votes is a clear majority - better than most political parties claim their mandate to govern on!
I've been on a few committees - political, medical, business administration - and seen a lot of big decisons made on narrower margins than that.
I'll probably meet Isobel sometime soon and form my own opinion of her then.

I vote out of 21 clearly isn't a mandate, 4 out of 22 is a bit more definite and consistent with a free vote.
22-0 would mean the "faceless men" had been working behind the scenes to make it clear it wasn't a free vote, but that doesn't happen in a democratic party.
