Labor paying $2.65 with our sponsors. Worth a bet IMHO.

I don't expect you to agree with me. ;)
I see the Greens as the 3D party; the dogmatists, the disaffected, and the delusional.

I agree Barnaby Joyce has foot in mouth disease again.
Hopefully, though those differences will be overcome in the interests of the rural people those independents represent.
After all the ALP is very much a party of the cities and the industrial unions, and any promise they make to help the rural areas is usually token and broken.

Ah yes. The fabulous Lib/Nat economic management. Slash services. Cut spending and then hang onto the saved money (that taxpayers pay for a service) call it a surplus and say "Look at all this money I've got. Aren't I clever". ;)

FWIW. The Victorian country are more than happy with Labor. The days of country folk been best represented by the coalition are fading fast.

Alternativley the Nationals could do what they did here in SA with Karleen Maywald and form a Coaltion government with Labor, clealry there has been a precedent set for it. Cant see it happening though!

Victoria is rather an exception, and seems to have always been. The different philosophical set, and attitude of dependency, was noticeable in my ten years there.

Things may have been nasty recently, if the surplus hadn't been there when the stimulus was allegedly needed though.
After all, why didn't Labor do the same in 1987-88 under Keating - was it because Keating saw it as an empty gesture or because the money wasn't there to spend?
I ask that genuinely as I don't recall now what the federal fiscal position was at the time, beyond how it affected me through business inactivity and high interest rates, although the state debts in SA and Victoria were apparent. [It was before I'd joined any political party or followed it closely. It was the point of my political awakening in a sense.]

Because I think the developed nations of the world will continue to lose economic ground against the developing nations and become relatively more poor in time, I think none of us can afford to run up any debt we may later be unable to pay back, or even pay the interest on. We should be building up surplus now as insurance against future costs like pensions and superannuation, and essential maintenance of services.
I believe those developed countries with much more debt than us are not examples of good economic practice that we can feel safe in following.
They seem likely to be the potential new Mexico and Greece of the world in time, and we should be careful not to be one of them.
Australia may be saved from the worst of it by our mineral wealth [including our Thorium reserves] but we still need to be fiscally careful.

I reckon labor will get the nod, and form a minority government. Hope I'm wrong I just think their is too much bad bllod between the nats and the old Nats - now the independants.

Could change though if Wilkie gets up in Denison as the AEC computer is back now calling and we get our first indigenous MP in Hasluck. Source Antony Greens Election page on abc.net.au. Boothby is also now off the "in doubt" claim and now a lib retain - thank goodness.

Disagree I reckon Jameson will get enough pre polls to make him safe.

Explains my prediction in the media watch thread whilst I believe it will be 73, 73, 1 and 3. Labor to form a minority govt, IMO.

Far be it for me to go against Green's and the AEC's computer though.

Ambays, I think you are almost on the money except I would say it is 72, 72, 1, 1 and 4. The WA National Party member is not part of the coalition, nor does he wish to be considered as part of it. Also, Wilkie will win Denison.
Cheers

It's swinging around a bit - here is today's: http://au.news.yahoo.com/election/a/-/a ... 12/#thread
SportsBet is offering $1.87 for both sides, after Labor blew out from $1.55 and the coalition tightened from $2.36.

Id be embarrassed to say that Gillard was our PM elect. Shes a terrible speaker, a ranga and certainly not an inspiring leader, the opposite infact! Fingers crossed!
