NSW election March 26, 2011

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

I was in Sydney last week for 5 days and you wouldn't even have known that an election was on.

Only saw a couple of Greens posters but other than that ... nothing.

Is that the norm over there? ... I wish it was over here [-o<

Just found out the changes in the electoral boundaries now put me in the seat of Marrickville.

Basically it's Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt versus Marrickville Mayor Fiona Byrne (Greens).

Depending on Lib preferences, might have to vote Labor after all.

Damn...

You can do your own preferences , you don't have to following any parties how to vote card.

If you dislike the greens then fill it out like this.

1. Liberal
2. Labor
3. Greens

And in the upper house , vote below the line.

No wonder they will continue to promote how to vote cards, a lot of people think you have to follow them.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

Must've had a mental blank that day. #-o

So much apathy towards this election because the result is a foregone conclusion: has been for some time. Except for Bob Ellis, of course, who has predicted Labor to hang on. Most unlike Bob to bring attention to himself.

Beyond a joke that Robertson, currently marshalling the union troops to campaign for him in Blacktown because Sussex Street is panicking he might get rolled, could be the next Labor leader.

This is the same grub who actively campaigned against a Labor premier and reached out to O'Farrell during the 2007 power sell-off stoush. Business as usual if he gets in.

Only four days to go...

Looks like the Coalition has improved it's chances throughout the campaign - here is the latest market:

COALITION $1.015 in from $1.03 a month ago.
LABOR $15.00 out from $12.00 a month ago.

That must be for Labor wining 5 seats surely? ... for a Labor victory $15,000,000,000 is more realistic.

Love voting day.

Sausage sizzle, tea and cake and a landslide win.

Oh and it looks like Tebbutt will hold off the Greens in Marrickville.

Everyone's a winner...

Interesting to see what effect this has on Oakeshott and Windsor. They can't pretend there is no message in this for them, but just how much is open for debate.
Windsor is probably more stable, Oakeshott has been described in one article as 'erratic'. No wonder, he is facing his own form of political oblivion if he sticks to his deal with Labor-Greens.

Good result for the democratic process and a deserved kick up the bum for NSW Labor.

The result, however, ensures that the Independents will stick with Gillard for the term of the Parliament, as they certainly won't want to go to an election early. They also won't change sides, so it's a great result for Gillard as it removes the toxicity of the NSW Government from her problems.

Not a great result either for the Greens, but they are even more radical in NSW than elsewhere.
Fiona Byrne's appalling spin on her Israeli boycott push did her no favours either. But just why the hell a local council is involving itself in middle eastern politics in the first place is probably unknown to most people on planet earth.

I agree about Byrne.

I disagree with one article describing Oakeshott as 'erratic'. Before he made his decision to support Gillard, everyone thought he was wonderful and we should have more like him.

It's only since that decision that many have changed their mind.

For those that may have got a tad excited (yes Mad Monk, that means you), Oakeshott has reaffirmed his support for the Federal government and has stated that the NSW result doesn't change a thing.

Yes, I saw that.

I presume he'll get the leadership (?).

Hopeless.

Looks likely.

Shows how much of a rabble Labor are in NSW at the moment.

Almost impossible to fathom how they could reward him for his treachery. Letting him in the LC was bad enough. Not surprisingly, Costa and Iemma are already lobbing hand grenades.

Foley has approached Tebbutt, but she's said no to the leadership - again. Geez, people, it's pretty obvious she doesn't want the job. Never has.

Some of the immediate "analysis" by Labor figures over here clearly show them to be into denial. Or they're just plain stupid.

Robbo, Walt Secord, yeah, reform is high on the agenda...

Greens claim 'historic' Lower House victory

The Greens have won their first seat in the New South Wales Lower House after Jamie Parker defeated former education minister Verity Firth in the inner-western seat of Balmain.

Distribution of preferences finished late on Saturday afternoon, putting Mr Parker ahead of Liberal candidate James Falk, 19,141 to 16, 664.

Mr Parker claimed the key seat earlier in the day, despite the count still being finalised, calling the win an "historic victory" for his party.

LOL, doesn't he have more to gain if he supports the coalition? :ymhug:

Yeah true, but it's too late for that now. He'll likely get the order of the boot next election, so he'll be hoping like hell Julia doesn't call an early one.

I'm enjoying the side-line spat between the ALP and the Greens over whose fault it is that Pauline Hanson may still get a seat.
Overall, I thought the Greens had the logic on their side in the spat.
