Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Yes, polls this far out are meaningless for the next election result.

It's always possible that this poll is what's called an 'outlier'; ie, it's a flawed poll.

If the next poll is similar, though, I'm looking good for a free drink from my mate southee

The previous poll was straight after Abbott slaughtered Jules on her 'Lie'
Now dust has settled and ALP have finially started selling the positives on the Carbon price, a bit of thought and sensibility has come to the debate.
This is the area where the Libs struggle. All hate, no thought.

Next poll will be even better for Labor if Libs dont back up and realise the Carbon price and ETS HAS to proceed.
I also think this poll is going to ruin Abbott, Turnbull will align himself for the job again. By going Bi partisan with Carbon price/ETS and attacking Labors other shortcomings he will become PM.

I think you're spot on, duncs.

I've also said previously that the LNP's best chance for the next election is with Turnbull as leader.

I think Abbott's days are numbered, barring a Labor scandal.

The last poll seems to abberant. The ALP well and truly on the nose, worst figures since 2003.http://www.news.com.au/national/support-for-labor-and-julia-gillard-plunges-again/story-e6frfkw9-1226033730023 PM Brown must be dissappointed

I agree.

Newspoll's last 3 seem very erratic.

Essential put out a 'rolling' 2 week average and it seems around the mark toi me.

I'd say it's currently about 52 or 53 Coalition, 47 or 48 ALP.

Interesting, but not surprising, that The Australian have led with the latest 2 favouring the Coalition, but buried the one in between favouring Labor.

How long to a new leader or quietly drop the carbon tax? The dirty tricks department has started on Wilkie (opposition or gambling industry initiated?) so how long to the next election?

Don't you just love 'The Australian'

The latest Newspoll has Labor gaining 4%, from 54/46 to 52/48 Lib.

The Australian's take on it:

"Coalition maintains big lead"

followed by statements that there has been 'virtually no change'.

Within the margin of error for the poll "virtually no change" may be true, but I see where you are coming from

None of the major parties can take any comfort from this, but can I boldly suggest that the Coalition should be more concerned.

It's not unusual for the government of the day to be behind in the polls between elections ... 48/52 is not a catastrophe by any means.

The Coalition on the other hand have been carrying on about how bad this government is, how the Carbon Tax will destroy the economy, Julia is on the nose, etc, and they only can manage a 52/48 lead? Jeez, what's going to happen when they actually have to release some policies instead of repeating monosyllabic catch phrases such as 'a great big new tax'?

In any case, polls at this time of the electoral cycle are akin to tits on a bull.

The bookies have the Coalition as firmer favourites than the Newspoll suggests...

Federal election winner:
AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY $2.70
COALITION $1.45

After hearing the latest news regarding the economy shrinking in the last quarter, get on the Coalition now while they are paying out odds that high!

While Tony Abbott is Opposition Leader, I'd stick to Labor.

As for GDP figures, the Queensland floods might just possibly have affected those figures just a tiny bit.
