The basic idea of a carbon tax is that it will improve the economic competitiveness of low-carbon-intensity products (e.g. wind power) compared to high-carbon-intensity products (e.g. fossil fuel power).

Both consumers and producers will try to avoid paying some of the tax by avoiding or reducing their usage of higher-carbon-intensity products and services.

The tax also raises revenue - some of which will likely go towards research and development of low-carbon-intensity technologies.

the Greens are socialist, simplistic and stupid. Christine Milne looks and talks like a rodent in need of a feed of rat bait and a dish of water. Gillard curses them every night before she embraces that poor bloke who has to sleep next to her.

Change the record. Ask John Howard and Peter Costello what they think of the ETS that this Carbon Price will lead into??

Give me some facts FFS? The Greens are a disgrace. 14% of the vote (or less) and demand 55% of the decision making. Quicker they are despatched nto oblivion the better we will ALL be

Actually, the country would be better off if we moved away from conservative policy making. The substantial shift toward the Green vote represents a disenchantment with the two major parties (mainly disenchanted Labor voters though) and the fact that they hardly differ at all.

14% now, and how much more at the next election?

Are you able to substantiate this claim Sky Pilot?

I can't find any reference to where the Greens have demanded 55% of the decision making...

wont even make double figures at next election. They will be decimated just like the Democrats were. People are sick to death of Brown and his bleating like a stuck pig. His arrogance is insufferable. Hanson-Young really is just plain stupid and I would defy anyone with an IQ greater than 9 to defend her views.
Abbott might not lead the Libs into power but someone will. A drovers dog will beat this pack of dead beats that is currently leading us into socialistic chaos. Albanese, Midnight Oil, Swan, Ferguson, Macklin and so on.......God save us from tjhis

You live in a 'leftie free zone' according to an above post. Of course you think 'people are sick to death of Brown' because you aren't exposed to the alternate views of the wider public.

how can 14% be the wider community? 100% of my family, friends, golfing partners, business associates (100% - not 99%) reckon the Greens are loopy. I am happy with that
