Truth hurts? ;)

Water Bills doubled, Save the Murray Levy, Emergency Services Levy, Increased Car Regos helps families in South Australia no end.

In return for Infrastructure projects cancelled - Morphett Rd Bridge, Yatala Jail redevelopment etc.

If Rann expects to be slapped on the back and congratulated for that he is sadly mistaken and justifiably so!

Also the Desal Plant which is looking to be a big "white" elephant.....

Libs would not have CANNED......done differently without complete cost blow outs.

Adelaide OVal = Farce.
Trams = Brake down and over heat, too small.
South Road = Not a lot of difference at all. Still jam packed at peak times.
RAH = New hospital would be more viable and world class.

As for Lance.....how much did it cost him to come to Adelaide???

.......as for my sources .......just wait and see dedja. Tell me something.....did the desal plant come under budget or break even??? :?

southee, what evidence do you have for saying the Liberals wouldn't have canned those projects?

What evidence do you have for saying they would have done them without cost blowouts?

What evidence do you have that you haven't adopted straight talker's school of future predictions ;)

The desalination plant isn't completed yet ... you do know it's a fixed price contract?

So interested to know how it's going to be a white elephant?

The concern is the schedule, not the cost.

You do know that in a bad year, about 90% of Adelaide's water needs comes from the Murray.

In fact the the Murray pipeline at Mannum was built over 50 years ago, which means Adelaide's water supply was unsustainable way back then.

Also, Adelaide's catchments only hold 1 years supply.

Yes, a desalination plant is bloody expensive to build and operate, but it's absolutely essential for Adelaide.

I will add however that harvesting storm water should be encouraged as well.

And finally, the desalination plant was first proposed by the Libs so Labor stole the idea from them.

I also would have thought that having a facility that will ensure that minimising our drain on a finite natural resource like the Murray would be something that should be applauded as vital to ensuring the Murray's chances of survival, but am amazed at how many people seem hell bent on canning it every chance they get. Would the Murray drying up completely be preferable?

Did the ALP only consider the desal plant when it became Liberal Party policy?

Would it be fair to say its the Govt's handling of the desal plant that is open to criticism and not the fact that they're building one?

I honesty think both apply. There is no doubt there are issues with the build schedule and the safety record.

One thing the previous CEO of SAWater was proud of was their safety record. It's both sad and tragic that there has been at least one fatality on the building site.

How many Housing SA homes have been sold off and not replaced under Mike Rann's tenure as Premier? 20 000 perhaps?

Bye bye Mike but he's not worthy of taking all the blame, all by himself. As a leader he's a pretty astute fellow - he's just lacked the support of some intellectual grunt around him in Cabinet.

The desal plant is a must - the green light to invest and build came at a time when critical human consumption needs were being critically tested. Fortunately, rains came. The pity is that the Govt has pursued a full cost recovery pricing model. A bit like ETSA and Envestra are doing with their infrastructure upgrades. Once upon a time these upgrades were funded from annual dividends and loans. Nowadays, levies are imposed to repay costs pronto.

All the focus has been on Rann and an enforced transition to Weatherill. But Jay is on a hiding to nothing here and no one has begun to consider that. He may be the man of the moment so to speak, but there isn't a lot of personal upside in this for him other than the title and the mantle. Thr Right wont pledge their support forever and really, the Ágreement'for Jay to take over is just one thing - we are yet to hear (if indeed we ever do) about what other aspects of this Ágreement' there may be.....

John Rau will likely be our next Premier, and the question really only is, when will that be?
