It's now being reported that Slipper has quit the party and is now an independent ... looks like Labor has outsmarted the Opposition for the first time in ages.

Why would they say they did.

It would be leaked anonymously.

But it would be even better to hear the ALP go after the Liberals for not dis-endorsing a backbencher who they just backed as Speaker of the House in a parliament they control.

Pete Slipper = Mal Colston, they're a strange mob in Queensland.

No real complaints here as a Liberal as all's fair in love and war.

It's the game of politics, number one rule as Eddie Ward used to say is make sure you've got the numbers.

it's why I've got no real problem with what Mitch Wuilliams said yesterday, it's all about the thrust and parry of the politcal game to get your opponents off-side. it's not nice, you can debate the ethics but it is all about the game of politics.

I note he holds it by just under 5% and since the seat was created in 1949 it haas been held by the conservatives for all but six years.

Will be an interesting election in 2013, one thinks he is just trying to boost his parliamentary super in his last two years as an MP.

Interesting question. There might be some tinkering, but I'd suspect that the PM's way of doing things is to stick to her agreement.

It certainly weakens Mr Wilkie's position though.

It also means that a losing by-election doesn't end the Government.

I know one thing, though. If I had to choose between Mr Abbott and the PM to act for me to get a positive result from a difficult position, it would take anyone a nanosecond to choose the PM.

I shudder to imagine Mr Abbott as PM acting for the country. His days are numbered, as I've said for some time.
