I just breathe a sigh of relief that there's a chance the National Broadband Network isn't designed around Psyber's needs ;)
Only joking, mate :D
The IT industry would slam anything that didn't give it a big slab of the budget.
If the NBN goes ahead and I can get 10GB a month at high speed for up to $70 a month I'll sign up.
I just wouldn't pay $199 plus a month speculated as being what they'll want for it.
So, I suspect it definitely won't be designed around my needs!

I do think there are higher priorities for the money - realistic health and welfare changes federally, and, locally, the freight train by pass via Truro to make room for decent passenger services on the Hills tracks.
[That's not for my needs either as I've already got 2 cars, and never use the slow free bus service my Seniors Card entitles me to.]

Latest Morgan Poll Figures

Last weekend (August 7/8, 2010) the ALP (57.5%, up 7.5% from the telephone Morgan Poll conducted on the night of Tuesday August 3, 2010) enjoyed a strong boost as Prime Minister Julia Gillard was set to met and reconcile with former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and campaign together in Queensland. This boost gave the ALP a commanding lead over the L-NP (42.5%, down 7.5%) on a Two-Party preferred basis.

Psyber, I'd say this is one issue where one party is looking forward and the other is too lazy to do anything other than moan and say it's too hard.

I'm concerned the NBN may turn out to be a white elephant whose service nobody but big business can actually afford.
There will always, though, be the geeks who will sacrifice living a life to have it.
Whether that will save it from running at a loss for decades I don't know.

I think the idea that you could provide this electricity thingy to everyone is ridiculous.

To think you could really put up poles and run wires into nearly every house in Australia is just beyond belief.

As for this broadband internet nonsense, I say stick to telegrams.

I'm with you, Psyber ;)

As I have already said, I have broadband and if the NBN goes ahead and the product is realistically affordable I'll subscribe.
But, there seems to be some suggestion from several sources that it is going to cost too much to the end-user based on the present costs of its creation to be offered at an affordable level.
I haven't seen any figures released from the government to counter this concern.
Perhaps we could pause and look for a less expensive way of doing it before we rush in, instead of trying to catch the votes by grandstanding at any cost..

I'm not a Luddite as you suggest.
I got a VHS recorder in the late 1970s, a computer in 1987, built my own to my specs in 1992, and got dial-up in 1999.
I subscribed to ADSL at the highest speed available as soon as I lived somewhere where it could get it at all. [2004]
But I made sure they were all cost effective before jumping in.

Skilfully done LL, more so than the cut and paste jobs the Unions are running on TV, but also just as exaggerated and far from the truth.
The Liberal plan offers most of us not living very near the city much faster speeds than we can get now, more affordably.
Internode have admitted that they can't deliver me anything faster than 6.4Mbps and I'm only 17Km from the CBD.

Very funny reading someone in the Advertiser yesterday saying the Coalition wanted an information goat track rather than an information superhighway!

I scored:
Donkey 35%
Labor 35%
Coalition 16%
Greens 12%
[missing 2% ??]

I intend to vote for the Coalition because after Whitlam, Keating, and Rudd, I really don't trust the ALP.
I sympathise with some of their ideas but I don't believe that will deliver, or deliver in a fair and equitable form.
Possibly, my Donkey vote is high because I'm really in the middle, but my Donkey preferences go to the Coalition in the end.

As they should, a load of old 'asses' in the Coalition! ;)
