Gillard should go!

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

The left really look down on Joe Public don't they :(

Apologies.

The media has a huge impact on people's perception. Generally, the MSM is the public's primary source of (mis)information.

I agree to an extent, but in my opinion the majority of people only like to watch/read stories that agrees with what they already believe.

They use the MSM as a source of entertainment, not information. So I guess what I am saying is that even if that information was correct, if it didn't align with someones pre-conceived ideas they would stop watching or it wouldn't change their belief afterwards regardless.

There are some that go one step further. If a journalist writes something that is contrary to their entrenched views, they must be incompetent or completely biased

The News Ltd bias isn't a secret.

It's not in this nation's interest to have the existing concentration of media ownership and have one arm of that media ownership openly state it wants to 'destroy' another party.

I have to say I'm amused that because I generally support the mild left of politics, I'm 'branded' as biased, but those who oppose me somehow aren't :)

I'd say you're just as biased to the right, as are many who post here, but that's fine, we're all biased.

At least if I disagree with what a journalist writes, I'll say why and try to provide facts to support my case. You can also contrast my use of Mr Abbott's proper title and name, against the critics of the PM on here who constantly name call - witch, hag, etc.

Yes, I'm biased, but no more than many on here.

Anyway, good wishes to you, southee and keep supporting what you believe in :D

Yes, got to have a bit of passion R&B......just like those timber workers in the South East of the state I saw on the news tonight with Jay Weatherill.

All good mate ;)

A dumb reshuffle puts spotlight back on Gillard’s woes

by Bernard Keane

Is this the most nonsensical, craven, plain dumb reshuffle ever devised by a prime minister? It’s hard to recall a worse one. There was one of John Howard’s when he gave Wilson Tuckey a junior ministry — but Howard was a prime minister with authority, political nous and a firm grip on his party.

Julia Gillard has none of those things.

A bare two weeks ago, Labor had real momentum. It had finished the parliamentary year on a high with the Slipper coup and the mining tax bills through the House of Reps, put the seal on Gillard’s “year of decision and delivery”. Attention was turning to Tony Abbott’s relentless negativity and his need to change his tactics over the summer break. Some were talking about the need for a reshuffle of the Coalition frontbench.

But in that time Gillard has brought Labor’s momentum to a halt and wrenched the political spotlight back onto her tensions with Kevin Rudd and her own lack of authority and judgment.

All of it has been unforced and unnecessary. No one made Gillard omit Rudd from her conference speech. No one forced her into being rolled by her own faction on gay marriage. And Nick Sherry’s departure could have been dealt with via a minor redistribution of responsibilities. Instead, there’s yesterday’s mess, only necessary if you ignore the 700 words of pointless blather about the economy from the prime minister with which she introduced the reshuffle yesterday and agree this is all about rewarding Bill Shorten and Mark Arbib and punishing those considered less than enthusiastic Gillard supporters.

How dare she not want to read the best journalism has to offer...

I like how they try to spin it that the state has nothing interesting, surely it is the quality of journalism that should be called into question.

How about Baillieu announcing he's going to sack 10% of the Public Service, after promising not to cut anyone at the election>

The Age - Front page story and headline, as you'd expect.

Limited News (Herald Sun) - tiny paragraph on Page 3 :D

Indeed they do, but it always follows the same agenda:

If Labor does it:

Screaming headlines and interminable 'opinion' pieces by unbiased writers such as Piers Akerman, Chris Kenny, Denis Shanahan and a stable of News Ltd hacks.

If the Opposition does it:

Small para on page 3.

Circumstances do change, smac, but not at News Ltd.

They just keep hacking away and running their own agenda, knowing plenty will blindly follow.

The papers definitely haven't turned on the ALP.

They've never been onside in the first place :)

Southee, given that all the economic indicators show the Government is doing a great job with the economy, just what figures would even you say would indicate the Government is doing OK?

Inflation?

Unemployment?

Trade Surplus?

Interest rates?

Or, as I suspect, it wouldn't matter, because if they were good, it wouldn't be to their credit
and if they were bad, it would be their fault.

I await your figures with interest.

Oh, look forward to catching up in Round 1, mate :)

I dont have a real problem with Pollies getting an increase in salary or perks, but this is pure and simple greed and not living in the real world with the rest of us.

Id be more than happy for them to fly Business Class on domestic flights but it seems even that is below them

So here's the rub, if we accept that the above is all much better than under the Liberals, why are the polls / Centrebet so bad for the ALP?

Polls and Keating are separate issues. I'm talking about the economic performance of the Government. It's supposed to be 'ruining the country", but no-one can tell me in what way :?
