SA Health's detailed analysis of the Liberals' plan show it will actually cost $1.4 billion just for two new patient buildings - and on top of that it would cost an extra $500 million for basic maintenance and upgrade of the engineering systems, including sewers, water and power," Mr Hill said.

Just shows why the government has not issued the writs for an election yet - they can use the SA Public Service for their own political purposes.

Channel 7 blinks first ... http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/arch ... 5830249813

Seven Network acknowledges the Premier of South Australia's statement in response to its Sunday Night program last year, which featured an interview with Michelle Chantelois and, in particular, his denial that he engaged in sexual intercourse with Ms Chantelois.

Seven Network retracts any implication in the story that the Premier exploited his friendship with Ms Chantelois and acknowledges that he had no involvement in her employment or the cessation of her employment with a South Australian public school.

Seven also acknowledges that neither the Premier's friendship with Ms Chantelois nor the subject matter of the story have any bearing on the Premier's role of performance as Premier.

Seven regrets any embarrassment caused to the Premier or his family by the broadcast of the story.

As the Premier has instituted legal proceedings over the program, Seven has agreed to pay his reasonable costs in settlement. No damages were sought.

(1) So what - they acknowledge his response
(2) So what - I never thought any different
(3) So what - I never thought it had any bearing either

I am surprised that Rann let it be settled before the election

The issues in question as part of the alleged defamation stem from Seven's sloppy journalism which has been highlighted by their public apology.

Jimmy you are correct, there is nothing here that goes to the heart of the MC issue. Whether this helps or hinders Ranndy is yet to be seen.

Southern Expressway will be duplicated in Govt backflip

17 Feb 10 @ 12:35pm by Jessica Whiting

THE Southern Expressway will be duplicated to have traffic flowing both ways by mid 2014, the State Government announced today (February 17).

Construction will start early next year on the $445 million project, which will include a new $75 million transport interchange at Darlington.

The announcement comes despite State Transport Minister Patrick Conlon telling the Southern Times Messenger in December that "there were no plans for a duplication in the next term of government’’.

Duplication would now involve modifying a significant number of bridges that are too narrow, as well as rebuilding access ramps and carrying out extensive earthworks,’’ he said at the time.

Premier Mike Rann said this week the duplication would ensure growth in the south was sustainable, support industrial areas next to Reynella and Lonsdale, and boost activity around Noarlunga Centre.

According to the Plan for Greater Adelaide, the population of southern Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula is set to grow by 104,000 people, with 55,000 extra homes in the next 30 years.

Mr Rann said the duplication would also make the Fleurieu Peninsula more accessible to tourists, and open up southern beaches and the McLaren Vale region to greater economic opportunities.

He said the Southern Expressway presented a "planning nightmare’’ in designing the Darlington transport hub.

"Duplication of this expressway was an inevitable project that this government has brought forward so that we can integrate our transport infrastructure, without wasting millions on interim measures.’’

So, they lied in December or suddenly they have a fight on their hands and do a backflip?

Im betting the second option

Yeah, that may be true J but the Libs didn't do much due dilligence when it came to costing their proposal ... which is the greater sin? We'll find out next month. ;)

Foley takes another swipe at Liberal RAH costings

Fri Feb 26, 2010 4:10pm AEDT

Liberals making fundamental cost errors, says Foley The South Australian Government has produced a letter from a consultancy firm which it says casts more doubt on the Opposition's costings to rebuild the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH).

The letter from WT Partnership asks Treasurer Kevin Foley to retract comments about the company which he used in an attack over the hospital rebuild cost.

But Mr Foley has seized on another part of the letter which stated the firm was not retained by the Liberal Party to cost the hospital rebuild.

Mr Foley says it raises a possibility that the Liberal leader has misled South Australians.

An opposition spokesman says it retained Pruszinski Architects for the project, which uses the services of WT Partnership for costings.

So, Foley has to retract as I said he'd have to do, and then screws it up again.

He's like a drunk running around the pub throwing punches at anyone or anything

No wonder he's so ronrey

Anyone notice the large full page ads mocking Rann and Foley from the Fair Land Tax party? They have a single candidate for the Legislative Council, appear to be cashed up and vying for the 'Xenophon' votes up for grabs.

Well if you have, do you know who their campaign adviser is?

Anyone remember who architected Labor's 1997 election media campaign?

Anyone remember who negoatiated with Peter Lewis to support Labor to give them a majority in 2002?

Anyone remember who was sacked as a senior adviser to Mike Rann for alleging to offer Ralph Clark Government Board positions to coerce him to drop defamation action against the Attorney-General?

Yes, none other than Randall Ashbourne.

It seems Rann is now fighting wars on the Eastern and Western fronts.

They are certainly noticeable

Maybe Shadiac should run with Ashley Porter as his adviser (but he'd get the date of the election wrong)

Mike Rann's assailant Richard Phillips pleads guilty in Adelaide court

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/national/mike-ranns-assailant-richard-phillips-pleads-guilty-in-adelaide-court/story-e6frea8c-1225836907198

AFTER years of suspecting his wife had had a sexual affair with South Australia's premier, Richard Phillips says he "lost it" at a chance encounter with Mike Rann.

Mr Phillips, the estranged husband of Michelle Chantelois, struck the Premier in the face up to four times with a rolled up magazine at a corporate function last October.

Mr Phillips today pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Rann.

The 56-year-old wiped away tears in court when Magistrate Cathy Deland said she would not convict him over an
assault she said occurred in "most unusual circumstances".

Ms Deland placed Mr Phillips on a $1000 two-year good behaviour bond.

"I'm very pleased it's all over and I have got nothing else to say," Mr Phillips said outside Adelaide Magistrates Court.

A month after the assault, Ms Chantelois said she had a sexual affair with Mr Rann, who has denied the claims, saying it was a "flirty" friendship.

Phillips' lawyer, David Edwardson, QC, told the court the businessman had been frustrated and anxious over many years, suspecting his wife had had an affair with the Premier.

The suspicions were a factor in the end of their marriage in early 2006.

"Mr Phillips' wife has since confessed to the sexual relations ... that has confirmed his worst fears," Mr Edwardson said.

He said "all these pressures and emotions came to a head" on October 1 last year when Phillips saw the Premier at the National Wine Centre.

"Mr Phillips simply lost it, to use his expression," Mr Edwardson told the court.

Mr Edwardson described the encounter as a "chance meeting against a rather tragic background".

He said Phillips assaulted the Premier in a "spontaneous and impulsive loss of self-control following on a history.

"He expresses his sincere regret at losing his self-control on this occasion," Mr Edwardson said.

Ms Deland said a conviction was not appropriate, adding the position that Mr Rann holds was not relevant.

"It's quite apparent the relationship had been playing on his mind for a lengthy period of time," she said.

"I have no doubt that what occurred was a result of built-up frustration over a number of years," she said.

"I consider this to be at the lower end of the scale despite the public responses which there have been."

Rann "sorry"

Yesterday evening, during a televised debate with Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond, Mr Rann publicly apologised for the "friendship".

"If my friendship, before I was married, has caused any stress to anyone, including Ms Chantelois and her family, that I regret that and I apologise for that," he said.

And if he had disappointed the people of South Australia, he said he apologised to them as well.

Ms Chantelois has rejected the apology.

"I do not consider that an apology, I don't feel there is any sincerity in that at all and I do not find it acceptable," Ms Chantelois told ABC radio today.

Wow, with what the judge said and even Mike Rann said you'd think she's probably been telling the truth.
I trust Isobel but I don't trust Media Mike at all, surely no sane person could vote for him now?

By the looks of him last night, he'd be lucky to make it through the next term, which means Foley will have the Premier's job tacked onto the other 17 jobs he has.

How's he going to cope when he's struggling with all of his personal issues now?
