So you're saying the fact that more people voted for Liberal instead of Labor is spot on because they weren't ready? :?
I would have thought going by your statement that the voting would have been spot on if more voted for Labor?

Perhaps I should have said the election outcome was spot on.

Hendrik Gout on the Libs post election turmoil, "SA Libs: the Hatfields and McCoy's":

In the SA Liberal Party, anything and everything is already happening. The party is riven by factions and shambling between ridicule and incompetence.

IAIN EVANS IS A CANNY player in the Liberal factional fracas, a man of some talent and with no delusions of modesty. Some people, wrote Shakespeare, are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em. And some, like Evans, won the trifecta. He was born into politics.

Well, that was one result. The other was Redmond’s reaction. It’s difficult to find a single word to describe it. Fury would come close. Rage could be apt, as in a raging volcano. Some of those close to her say they saw a side the public has never seen in the nine months of her leadership. She slammed her glass down, they said, with such fury it sprayed on the desk and that she went to her office in a rage. One claims he heard her threaten resignation, another that she said she’d force a second spill – presumably this time it wouldn’t be a glass of water. For almost two hours she refused to speak with the media or leave her fortified keep.

But as the clock dragged, Hamilton-Smith excused himself from the group. He searched out Redmond to suggest that perhaps it was time to go into the parliamentary courtyard and greet the press, as civilised people do.

Which she did, with the good grace of an orca greeting a seal.

But she promised, twice, on camera, that she would abide by the wishes of the party room. At that moment, Redmond violated her reputation as a person who tells the truth.

The Evans faction stitched up a deal, and stitched up Hamilton-Smith. Together with Redmond it was decided that Evans would withdraw from the second contest. Mitch would stand in his place, as it were. Of course, Mitch was quite prepared to sacrifice himself for the cause and become deputy leader. That’s the kind of guy he is.

And is it a coincidence that these factional leaders and their clans – Redmond, Chapman and Evans – are all folk from the Adelaide Hills, the South Australian Appalachians?

As a long term hills dweller myself - Hahndorf, the Dandenongs, Stirling-Aldgate - this is the only bit I take exception to here..
Up here we know this is where all Adelaide's cultured and civilised people live, or aspire to live, while those who can't make it settle for the southern eastern hills fringe suburbs. ;)

What I've noticed about Hills people, Psyber, is that they think it only takes city people 10 minutes to drive to them, but it's always far too far for them to drive to the city :) ;)

Announced that Rick Sarre will be contesting Sturt for Labor

Being an oldtime eastern suburbs lad, he might just win it

At least the poodle might concentrate on something else other than f***ing everyone else up

The problem is that as you crest Crafers you can see before you the browny-grey murk that passes for air down on the plains and you are reluctant to enter it let alone breathe it. ;)

Joking aside, that is actually true for me - I get allergic symptoms in Adelaide.
I'd planned to buy in Stonyfell or Burnside, and was staying there, with friends, when I was house hunting last year, but it caught up with me after about three or four days.
Interestingly, I don't have the same problem in Melbourne, although I chose to live in the Dandenongs 90 minutes out.
Melbourne is, of course, damper, and the skies have a grey haze rather than the brownish one, so something is different..
