It will be interesting to see how Rick Sarre goes in his contest against Pyne.

I can recall him as a lectuer at Uni SA. Very smart bloke, i wonder if he's a potential Attorney General or Justice Minister.

Agreed. Sturt is the only SA seat I reckon could change hands, and with Pyne being widely disliked, he could what Howard did with Bennellong and lose what's normally a safe Liberal seat.

The Nationals have announced they will not be putting up any candidates in SA - surprise, surprise.
They have said they will be putting their energy into a Victorian candidate this time around.
They also say not to count them at as a political entity in SA in the future.

I have been unable to confirm or deny the rumour that the Nats asked former Member for Chaffey Karlene Maywald to stand for Barker against Patrick Secker.

Press release regarding the above:

SA NATIONALS DECIDE NOT TO CONTEST FEDERAL ELECTION

The SA Nationals have announced they will not be fielding candidates in next month's Federal election.

President Dr Jacky Abbott said the party was reconstituting after the March State election and would need to rebuild further before inviting candidates to nominate.

'We will be supporting our Nationals neighbours in Victoria - particularly Bridget McKenzie running for the Senate,' Dr Abbott said. 'And we are keen to cheer on the WA Nationals to continue implementing our joint policy of Royalties for Regions.'

'So don't count us out as a party,' Dr Abbott said. 'I'd call it a bye in the home and away round'

It is interesting that he developed a Gall Bladder problem after being galled by the process of being opposed and replaced.
One can only wonder whether his Gall Bladder was obstructed by a stone, or was perforated and leaked too.

"Rudd leaked against ALP for Libs: Downer":

Ousted prime minister Kevin Rudd leaked damaging material against his own Labor colleagues that the Liberal Party had fed him, a Howard government minister says.

Former foreign minister Alexander Downer said that as an ambitious Labor backbencher in opposition, Mr Rudd sought to undermine the ALP's then foreign affairs spokesman Laurie Brereton by giving information to the media.

"We used him mercilessly to embarrass Laurie Brereton," Mr Downer told News Limited's Sunday newspapers.

"We would give Rudd information to use against Brereton, and he would use it."

"I don't use the c-word, but I do use the f-word pretty freely, and I can tell you that Kevin Rudd is a f***ing awful person," he said.

"He was so incredibly unprincipled."
