Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

If by "fascist" you mean the usual "authoritarian" you could mean the supporters of either end of our political divide. ;)

The Nazi Party is generally described as being at the extreme or far right of the left-right political axis. While the party incorporated elements from both left and right-wing politics, the Nazis formed most of their alliances on the right. On the Nolan Chart, the Nazi party would be described as politically extreme authoritarian, and economically centrist.

This part of the definition would fit all the former socialist goverments in Eastern Europe before the fall of the Berlin wall.

The Australian reports as its website lead story that

"Äbbott declares victory on costings"

Good for a laugh, I suppose :D

I watched Malcolm Fraser on Q & A last night slam News Ltd and the Murdoch press for its misrepresentation of news to assist the Coalition.

The reporting of the current total vote as a major victory for the Coalition is just another example, but in this case an impportant one.

It's only when you read the detail that the reporters quietly mention that 8 seats have been excluded for the time being.

Never mind, let's all follow like sheep and just accept this kind of dishonest, manipulative journalism.

I thought the old Malcolm made a lot of sense on several issues last night.
We do need some way to stop the media pushing elections - one way or the other - during campaigns.
We also need to get back to discussing policy, not personality, as the priority focus.
Perhaps a media black out for the last month or 6 weeks, published policy statements, and local public meetings. ;)

I agree Fraser did have a few good things to say (anyone know what that crazy artiste type on the end was going on about all night?). But Psyber the media (especially Ltd News) would go feral if any party even hinted at going through with that. I read somehwere (Crikey probably) that the main reason The Australian etc were demanding another election is because it would then mean another $30m in advertising revenue for the company.

I agree with you there, Gozu, they are in it for the money, and personality based, Presidential style, campaigns with big advertising is what they want.
I don't believe the big media are ever on any political side unless it means money for them.

Thanks for that, squawk, a typical Bob Ellis offering.

I now see the 2PP has Labor leading by almost 20,000 votes (yes, 20,000). Considering the media had a collective orgasm when the LibNp got 900 in front, I'm still amazed there's no banner headlines about this surprise turnaround.

LibNP politicians are also amazingly still spruiking about having more seats (incorrect), more Primary votes (incorrect and irrelevant) and winning the 2PP vote.

Seeing I pointed out the 2PP situation a week or more ago, are they just:

1 Thick

2 Deliberate liars, or

3 Both of the above.

They're also labelling the new Government 'illegitimate'. Apart from the insult to the democratic process, this should be offensive to all of us, Labor or Liberal supporters alike

As for Abbott perorming better than any opposition leader against a first-term government, wrong again. He doesn't come near the result against Howard in 1998.

R&B - the media see all this as old news now. Their cycle is complete. They have made their money from party advertising.

If you want evidence, refer to the big story of today - a dog being snatched from the Royal Show.
