Gozu, I would very much appreciate it if you would refer to Sloppy Joe by his correct title. ;)

Consider this a reprimand ;)

Yes it's a pity the OP fabricated some bullshit story about jobs going offshore to China, but it's come to be expected from Sojo.

I'd heard the same story on the radio - it may have been fabricated, but Sojo didn't fabricate it.

The story is they are downsizing their operations globally, concentrating on their manufacturing in America and Japan. No mention of shifting operations and jobs to China and I'm yet to read an article that says such. Given that the OP didn't provide a link, I can only assume he made it up.

I understand.

But it would seem that the story has changed at some media outlets because I heard the same story.

I think that it was "initially reported" that they were opening a new factory in China, but that was then corrected by spokesman from Harley. there was a line in the advertiser article about "a spokesman from Harley davidson denied speculation that they were moving to china" or words to that effect. someone started the rumour, and i dont think it was Sojourner. ill post a link if i can find the adelaide now article.

edit: the wording isnt quite as i remembered it, but it still denies the china move, so there must have been a rumour to begin with that china was the destination.

Again that is what I heard reported on 5AA, I could not care less if people think I made it up or whatever. I would however like some examples from Quichey if that is what he/she has "come to expect"....

I like facts, helps cut through the partisan bullshit.

Harley-Davidson will get its hubs from its Japanese and American manufacturing operations, which it had already cut back in an attempt to cope with the global financial crisis - not China as speculation had it.

"(Castalloy) had a number of cost competitive gaps we wanted to close. We are looking for long-term cost competitiveness in an economy that is becoming increasingly global," she said. "We have already done a lot of restructuring in our US factories. It was a question of how we become cost competitive and still deliver the products our customers want."

interesting, i found a link stating what soj did, according to the Australian, Harley was moving their operations to China. i dare say this was written first, and then corrected by the time the other outlets released their storys, hence the line in the aelaide now article "not China as speculation had it". So unless Soj writes for the Australian, he didnt make it up.....
