where does SA's future economic growth come from without Olympic Dam expansion then?

They quote the same report. The articles aren't much different, except that BS goes into other details about the report.

The mining boom is peaking because the price of resources is dropping thanks to the slowdown in China and subsequent fall in demand. The report also states that despite the peak, that other sectors of the Australian economy will experience growth leading to the predicted 3.0% total growth over the next 5 years.

from what i have heard, that isnt such a stupid idea. grain prices are sky high at the moment due to drought in other big wheat producing nations, leading to a global shortage and inflated prices. the farmers i know are talking about having a better year than the record breaking harvest from a couple of years ago, despite the expected total yield being much less.

another bonus on top is that they wont have to pay as much in cartage and storage fees with less total grain. less costs, but much greater pay off. might be time to get into an ag machinery business now to cash in on all the cockies upgrading their plant for next year ;)

Higher prices we recieve for our wheat will be eroded by the higher fuel and fertiliser costs.

That is if we have a good year... signs are good at the moment but who knows?

Agricultural-related export is a multi-billion dollar industry for SA.

The mining expansion will go ahead, it takes time to run thorough impact assessments.

What is holding back SA from economic prosperity? A high taxing State government prohibiting business investment in the State.

Impact assessments aren't the issue, its funding and commitment.

interestingly i believe Michigan have a high tax rate in the US and yet that state excells with business investment.

the state will get some cash from the new mining with BHP.

the reality is though the country and the state need to find other revenues and find them fast.
