Nothing to write home about, just throw out some bait and watch the man contract foot in mouth before your very eyes.

Peter Costello, all is forgiven ... please come back.

If it was Costello leading the Libs, do you think he would beat Gillard?

Costello would stand head and shoulders above the rabble on both sides of the divide at the moment ... pity he couldn't stomach a fight with Howard to become Liberal leader and then let it go when he had the chance after the last election.

No-one would have dreamt that the coalition would be in the mix this year and Costello would be odds-on to become the next PM IMHO.

This is from someone who dresses to the left. ;)

The only problem a lot of the posters on here would have is....

Who was Costello's little backbench supporter...??? ;)

You probably wouldn't like to see him come into prominence... :D

Costello was a spineless whimp as proved in his last couple of years of Parliament. And when the going got tough he got going.....literally.
Paul Keating was spot on when he described him as "All tip and no iceberg".

It's funny.... "Back in the Day" of the Howard Government, there was JH himself, Costello, Downer, who would have been a heck of a lot better than TA, and then you had the "support staff" TA, Nelson, Ruddock, Bishop, Turnbull, etc, that formed a very dominant and successful cabinet... fast forward a few years, and it's a very different story...

I don't know mate I feel as bad as some of the current lot are as the very least they stayed on for the fight. Costello chickened out at the first chance. In all my years of following politics he is probably the greatest downhill skier I've seen from both sides of the house. I loath John Howard like I loath very few other people (except maybe Leigh Matthews ;) ) but I admire the way the guy hung in there and hung in there when the going was really tough.

Yes, I agree with that ... no doubt he lacked the balls and suffered accordingly, but I respected his politics as a moderate and he'd be considered like a Karl Marx compared to Abbott at the moment.

With regards to Lethal, imagine how Robran would be regarded in history (scary considering his status already) if Lethal had pulled out* when he could have back on that fateful day. I saw Barrie play on one leg in 1980 and he could still run rings around most.

The current poll-driven preoccupation with "popularity" is something that frustrates the hell outta me.

Fair to say, a helluva lot of voters didn't like Howard or Keating.

But they respected them.

And even though I wouldn't vote for the Greens in a million years, I tip my hat to Bob Brown.

To survive this long in the game in a minor party proves what a shrewd political operator he is...

He must have retrieved that knife he thrust into Ian Wilson's back and is looking for another victim.

As long as he is re-elected then that's the main thing ... apparently.
